File Upload In Survey
File Upload In Survey Odoo App adds a File Upload question type to Odoo Surveys, so a survey can ask for a document instead of only text. Pick it from the same list as multiple choice or a text box, write the instruction that shows in the drop zone, and set what you will accept.
You decide the file types, either a ready made group such as images or documents or your own list of extensions, how many files a participant may send, the smallest number they must send, and the largest size per file. Participants drag files in or browse for them, see each one listed with its size and a thumbnail, and can remove any of them before submitting.
Every limit is also checked on the server, not just in the browser, so nothing unwanted gets stored. Answers arrive attached to the participation, ready to open, group or download, and the whole survey's files come out as one zip. Useful for recruitment, claims, applications and compliance forms.
MODULE FEATURES
File Upload Question Type
A new question type in the survey builder, picked the same way as multiple choice or a text box.
Your Own Instruction
Write the sentence shown inside the drop zone, so participants know exactly what to attach.
Allowed File Types
Choose images, documents, audio and video, or archives, and only those formats are accepted.
Custom Extension List
Or type your own comma separated list, such as pdf and png, when the ready made groups do not fit.
Minimum And Maximum Files
Say how many files a participant must send and how many they may send at most on that question.
Size Limit Per File
Set the largest size allowed for a single file, in megabytes, on each question separately.
Drag And Drop Zone
Participants drag files straight onto the question or browse for them, without leaving the survey page.
Limits Shown Up Front
The drop zone spells out the accepted formats, the size limit and the file count before anyone picks a file.
Thumbnails And Sizes
Each attached file is listed with its name, a readable size and an image thumbnail when it is a picture.
Remove Before Submitting
A participant can take a file back off the question, and the stored copy goes with it.
Instant Error Messages
A wrong format, an oversized file or too many files is refused straight away with a message that says why.
Checked On The Server
Every format and size rule is enforced again when the file arrives, so the browser cannot be talked around.
Required File Answers
Mark the question mandatory and the survey will not move on until the required files are attached.
Safe File Names
Risky characters are stripped from names and over-long names are trimmed before anything is stored.
Files Tied To One Answer
A file only counts when it was sent by that participation for that question, so submitted ids cannot be forged.
Token Based Download
Participants reach their own files with their participation link; everyone else needs the usual access rights.
Files On The Participation
Each participation counts its attachments and opens them in one click from the answer record.
Files On The Answer Line
The individual answer line lists its files and opens just those, so you can review one question at a time.
Files In The Results
The survey results page lists who uploaded what and when, with a link to open each file.
Files On The Printed Answer
The printable answer sheet lists the attachments for an upload question instead of leaving a blank.
Download Everything As Zip
One button on the survey collects every uploaded file into a single zip, foldered by participant and question.
Counters On The Survey
The survey shows how many upload questions it has and how many files have come in, each opening the list.
Find Files Fast
Filter uploaded files by images only, submitted or not yet submitted, and group them by participation, question or date.
Answers Stay Searchable
File names are kept on the answer itself, so an upload answer can be searched and exported like any other.
Empty Answers Become Skipped
Delete the last file on an answer and that question is correctly marked as skipped rather than left half filled.
Abandoned Files Cleaned Up
Files picked by someone who never submitted are removed after the number of days you set.
Immediate Clean Up
A button in Settings runs that clean-up straight away and tells you how many files it removed.
Defaults For New Questions
Set the size limit and file count that new upload questions start with, so nobody configures them from scratch.
The screens below follow the whole thing in order: adding the question and setting your rules, what a participant sees while answering, and how you collect the files afterwards.
From Setup To Downloaded Files
The screens below follow the whole thing in order: adding the question and setting your rules, what a participant sees while answering, and how you get the files back afterwards.
- Add the question and write the instruction participants see.
- Set the accepted formats, the file count and the size limit.
- Watch the drop zone refuse anything outside those rules.
- Review the files or take the whole survey's uploads as a zip.
Choosing File Upload
The Create Sections and Questions dialog with the question titled "Upload Image of your favorite food." and File Upload picked from the question type list, sitting under the standard choices such as multiple choice, text box, scale, date and matrix. A File Upload block has appeared on the Options tab below, starting with Upload Instructions, and the drop zone preview on the right already shows the wording being typed.
Setting The Limits
The File Upload block on the Options tab in full. Upload Instructions holds the sentence shown to participants, Allowed File Types is on Any file type, and beneath it sit Minimum Files 1, Maximum Files 10, Max Size per File 1.00 MB and a Show Image Preview toggle. Mandatory Answer is ticked in the constraints above.
Restricting The Formats
The same block with Allowed File Types switched to Custom extensions, which reveals an Allowed Extensions box where png has been typed. Several formats can be listed here separated by commas, and the ready made groups cover images, documents, audio and video, and archives if you would rather not type a list.
Question In The Survey
The saved survey with its Questions tab open. The new question, "Upload Image of your favorite food.", is listed with the type File Upload alongside the four multiple choice questions, so it takes its place in the survey like any other question.
What Participants See
The live survey with the upload question below a multiple choice one. Instead of a text box it shows a dashed drop zone with a cloud icon, the instruction "Attach document", and a line spelling out the rules that were set: allowed png, maximum 1 MB per file, up to 10 files, at least 1 file required.
Too Many Files Refused
The same question after the participant picked more files than allowed. A red message under the drop zone reads "You can upload 10 file(s) at most for this question.", and nothing is stored, so the count set on the question is respected before submission.
Wrong Format Refused
The response to a file whose format was not on the list. The message names the file, dev_project_task_1.jpeg, and states the accepted formats, png, so the participant knows exactly what to send instead.
Attached Files Listed
A later page of the survey with two accepted files listed beneath the drop zone. Each row shows a thumbnail of the image, the file name, its size in readable units (949.6 KB and 932.8 KB), and a bin icon to take that file back off the answer before submitting.
Collecting The Files
The survey record after a participation came in. A Download Files button sits in the header next to Share and See results, and the buttons above count 1 participation and 2 files. Download Files gathers every uploaded file for the survey into one zip, arranged in folders per participant and question.
Everything we ship is listed here, newest first, so you can see what a version brings before you take it.
Version 1.0 | Current Release
The questions we are asked most often before an install, answered against what the app actually does.
-
Does this replace the standard survey questions?
- No. It adds one more question type next to the existing ones. Multiple choice, text, scale, date and matrix questions carry on exactly as before.
-
Can I limit what participants are allowed to send?
- Yes, per question. Choose a ready made group such as images or documents, or type your own extension list, and set the largest size per file and how many files are allowed.
-
Could someone get round the limits in their browser?
- No. Every format and size rule is checked again on the server when the file arrives, and a file only counts as an answer if that same participation uploaded it for that same question.
-
How do I get the files out afterwards?
- Open them from the participation or the answer line, click through from the results page, or use Download Files on the survey to take everything as one zip, foldered by participant and question.
-
What happens to files from people who never finish?
- They are removed automatically after the number of days you set, and a button in Settings runs that clean-up immediately if you want the space back sooner.
-
Who is allowed to download an uploaded file?
- A participant can reach their own files through their participation link. Anyone else needs the usual access rights on the participation, and the whole-survey zip is limited to survey users.
