📋 Translation Log
Every API call is logged with entity type, record ID, target language, and result. 30-day retention. Accessible from the AutoLingo → Translation Logs menu.
🔁 Retry on Rate Limit
Automatic exponential back-off on HTTP 429: 2 s → 4 s → 8 s, up to 3 retries. API errors are written to the log and never lost silently.
📦 Batch Chunking
Automatically splits large content into chunks under the 128 KB API limit. Works transparently for all providers.
🔀 Fallback When a Quota Runs Out
When the selected provider has used up its quota, the next one that has a key translates: DeepL, Microsoft, Google, then OpenAI and DeepSeek. Free DeepL, Google and Microsoft accounts add up to about 3,000,000 characters a month.
🛡️ Protected Passages & Alt Text
Wrap brand names in [notranslate]…[/notranslate] to keep them as they are. Image alt and title text
inside descriptions, blog posts and website pages is translated with the rest.
🔔 Low Credit Alert
A banner in the settings and an entry in the translation log when fewer characters than your threshold are left on your DeepL account. The provider is also told what it translates, for better short texts.
How to set up
Go to Apps, search "AutoLingo" and click Install.
Go to Settings → AutoLingo: choose provider, paste API key, set source and target languages.
Go to Settings → Translations → Languages and install the target languages.
AutoLingo translates it instantly. Or click the Translate button for on-demand translation.

Yes. An API key from your chosen provider is required. AutoLingo does not include API credits. Free up to 3,000,000 characters a month with your free DeepL, Google and Microsoft accounts: when one runs out, AutoLingo translates with the next. No AutoLingo subscription.
No. AutoLingo uses the standard with_context(lang=...) write mechanism — the same
approach Odoo itself uses internally. It works alongside the built-in translation interface.
Use the Translate button on any product form, or the Action → Translate with AutoLingo server action on the product list to process multiple records at once.
AutoLingo sets an autolingo_skip=True context flag when writing translated content.
The write() hook checks this flag and skips re-triggering translation automatically.
