Manufacturing Cost Center Analytics

Every Manufacturing Order already knows what it consumed and what it produced. This module gives it a cost center too. Assign an analytic account to the order, choose whether every component follows it automatically or is tracked on its own line, and the valuation journal entries are tagged the moment the order is produced, with no manual adjustment afterward. Nothing else about producing an order changes.

Features

Everything a controller needs to know which department a component's cost landed on

Two fields on the order, one column on every line, and the standard accounting reports already show the breakdown.

Finished Product Analytic Account
One field on the Manufacturing Order form. Pick the cost center the finished product belongs to, and everything downstream reads from that single choice.
Two Propagation Modes
Use the order's analytic account for every stock move, or switch to individual line tracking so a component consumed from a different department keeps its own cost center.
Byproducts Included, Never Forced
A byproduct follows the order's cost center in the shared mode, exactly like a component, and stays individually editable in the per-line mode. It is never quietly stamped with the order's account when the order is set to track lines separately.
Automatic Propagation on Confirm
Choosing the analytic account and the mode fills every component, finished product and byproduct line immediately, and stays in sync if either choice is changed before the order is done.
Valuation Entries Tagged Automatically
The moment an order is produced, its stock valuation journal entries carry the same analytic account as the moves that generated them, line by line.
Reads Straight into Standard Reports
No new report to learn. The tagged entries show up in the existing Analytic Items list and Analytic Reporting pivot, grouped by cost center like any other analytic line.
An Optional Column on the Orders List
The Finished Product Analytic Account is available as a column on the Manufacturing Orders list itself, so a whole run of orders and their cost centers can be scanned at a glance.
Nothing Else Changes
An order with no analytic account assigned produces exactly as it always did. The module adds a choice, it never requires one.
Multi-Company Ready
The analytic account offered on an order is scoped to its own company, or shared across companies, exactly like the account picker anywhere else in the accounting app.

Quick Start

From a draft order to a tagged journal entry

Nothing changes about how a Manufacturing Order is created, planned or produced. The cost center is one more choice on the same form.

1
Create the Manufacturing Order as usual: product, bill of material and quantity are entered exactly as before. Two new fields appear next to the responsible person: Finished Product Analytic Account and Analytic Propagation Rule.
Pick the cost center and the mode: choosing "Use MO Analytic for All Stock Moves" fills every component, the finished product and every byproduct with that account right away. Choosing "Use Individual Line Analytic for Each Stock Move" leaves the finished product on the order's account and leaves every component and byproduct blank, ready for its own choice.
2
Override a single line where it matters: in individual mode, click into any component's or byproduct's Analytic Account cell on the Components or By-Products tab and pick a different cost center for just that line, before or after confirming.
3
Confirm and produce the order exactly as before: reserving components, recording consumption and marking the order done all work the same way they always have. The cost center choice simply rides along on each stock move.
4
The journal entries are already tagged: the valuation entries the order posts on marking it done carry the same analytic account as each move, and they show up grouped by cost center in Analytic Items and Analytic Reporting without any extra step.

Propagation Rule

One order, one choice, and every line follows the same rule

The Analytic Propagation Rule decides what happens to components, the finished product and byproducts. The finished product itself always follows the order's own account; the rule only decides how far that account reaches beyond it.

Line Use MO Analytic for All Stock Moves Use Individual Line Analytic for Each Stock Move
Finished productFollows the order's account.Follows the order's account.
ComponentsFollow the order's account.Left blank, editable per line.
ByproductsFollow the order's account.Left blank, editable per line.
Why a byproduct is never a special case

A byproduct is produced by the same order as the finished product, so it earns the same treatment as a component rather than a separate rule of its own: it follows the order's account in the shared mode, and it stays exactly as individually trackable as any other line in the per-line mode. A recovered material or a scrap byproduct can be costed against a completely different department from the main product it came out of, without a workaround.

From the orders list to the accounting reports

Real screens from a live database: the same product built through six orders, three cost centers, both propagation modes, and the resulting entries in the standard analytic reports.

1
Every order's cost center, at a glance
The Finished Product Analytic Account is an optional column on the Manufacturing Orders list itself, so a whole batch of orders can be scanned without opening a single one.
Manufacturing -> Manufacturing Orders
Manufacturing Orders list with the Finished Product Analytic Account column shown
Six orders for the same product, three different cost centers, all visible in one list.
2
Shared mode: every component follows the order
"Use MO Analytic for All Stock Moves" is selected, and the Components tab shows every raw material already carrying the order's own cost center.
WH/MO/00028 -> Components
Manufacturing Order in shared mode with every component tagged with the same cost center
Steel Frame, Rubber Seal Kit and Drive Motor Unit all carry Assembly Line A, filled the moment the order was confirmed.
3
Shared mode: the byproduct follows too
The By-Products tab of the same order shows the recovered material carrying the identical cost center, with no separate step needed.
WH/MO/00028 -> By-Products
Manufacturing Order in shared mode with the byproduct also tagged with the order's cost center
Recovered Metal Shavings carries Assembly Line A too, the same as the finished pump and every component.
4
Individual mode: one component on its own cost center
Switching the same product to "Use Individual Line Analytic for Each Stock Move" leaves the finished product on its own account and leaves every component blank, except the one deliberately overridden.
WH/MO/00029 -> Components
Manufacturing Order in individual mode with only the Rubber Seal Kit line overridden to a different cost center
The order itself is on Finishing Department, Rubber Seal Kit was moved to Packaging Department, and Steel Frame and Drive Motor Unit are left blank, ready for their own choice later.
5
Individual mode: the byproduct stays blank too
The same order's By-Products tab shows the recovered material left without a cost center, exactly like an untouched component in the same mode.
WH/MO/00029 -> By-Products
Manufacturing Order in individual mode with the byproduct left without a cost center
Recovered Metal Shavings is left blank, ready for its own cost center if one applies, never quietly stamped with the order's account.
6
Every tagged move, in the standard Analytic Items list
No custom report to open. The valuation lines these two orders posted appear in Odoo's own Analytic Items list, each one carrying the cost center of the move that produced it.
Accounting -> Analytic Items
Analytic Items list showing valuation lines tagged with the manufacturing cost centers
Packaging Department shows only the Rubber Seal Kit consumption from the individual-mode order; Assembly Line A shows every line from the shared-mode order.
7
The full cost breakdown, one click away in Analytic Reporting
Grouping Odoo's own Analytic Reporting pivot by cost center turns the same tagged entries into a total per department, with no export and no spreadsheet needed.
Accounting -> Reporting -> Analytic Report
Analytic Reporting pivot totalling manufacturing valuation by cost center
Assembly Line A, Finishing Department and Packaging Department, each totalled straight from the manufacturing entries this module tagged.
8
Where the byproduct comes from: an ordinary Bill of Material
No special setup is required on the Bill of Material itself. Any byproduct already configured there is picked up by both propagation modes without further configuration.
Industrial Pump Assembly -> Bill of Material
Standard Bill of Material for the finished product used across the walkthrough
The same standard Bill of Material used for every order in this walkthrough, unmodified by this module.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does an order need a cost center to be produced?
No. Leaving the Finished Product Analytic Account empty produces the order exactly as the stock and manufacturing apps already do, with no analytic account on any move.
Can a single component be tracked on a different cost center from the rest of the order?
Yes, switch the order to "Use Individual Line Analytic for Each Stock Move" and set that component's own Analytic Account cell on the Components tab. Every other line stays exactly as it was.
Is a byproduct treated differently from a component?
No. A byproduct follows exactly the same rule as a component in both propagation modes, and its Analytic Account cell on the By-Products tab is just as editable in individual mode.
Where do the tagged amounts show up?
In the standard Accounting app, under Analytic Items and Analytic Reporting, exactly like any other analytic line. No new menu or report is added by this module.
Does this change how stock is valued?
No. The valuation amount on every move is computed exactly as the company's own costing method already decides. This module only adds the analytic account alongside that amount, it never changes the amount itself.

Platform & Safety

Built for Odoo 19, and built to touch only what it needs to

Two fields, one column
The Manufacturing Order form gains two fields and the Components and By-Products tabs gain one column. Every other view, button and workflow stays exactly as stock Odoo built it.
No new accounting configuration
No new account, journal or valuation account is created by this module. It reads the analytic accounts already configured in the accounting app and writes them onto the moves an order already creates.
Native Odoo 19
Built against the current Odoo 19 manufacturing and accounting models, not a backport, and installs clean on a stock Odoo 19 database with Manufacturing and Accounting configured.
