Universal Dynamic Dashboard is a complete dashboard builder for Odoo Enterprise. Connect any standard or custom model, configure KPIs, statistics, charts, tables, progress bars, gauges, rankings, HTML sections, and image widgets - then arrange them on a professional 12-column grid with drag-and-drop, resize, themes, filters, drill-down, full-screen view, import/export, PDF, Excel, email, and optional Odoo AI assistant integration.
Purpose of the Module
The purpose is to give consultants, developers, and business users a single reusable dashboard framework instead of building one-off dashboards per module. Every widget reads live Odoo data through domains, aggregations, group-by fields, and date filters - no hard-coded numbers. Dashboards can be duplicated, exported as JSON, shared with users or groups, and scheduled by email from the backend.
Real World Problem It Solves
Sales managers need revenue and pipeline views; finance needs invoice trends; warehouse teams need transfer status - but Odoo's native apps scatter this across menus. Universal Dashboard consolidates cross-functional KPIs on one executive screen (see Company Operations Overview demo), with click-through to filtered list, form, pivot, or graph views.

Detailed Feature Guide
Every capability below is implemented in the module today. Values always come from live Odoo records - never hard-coded.
1. Dashboard Management
Create & open dashboards
From Statistics (home), click Create Dashboard or pick a Template card (Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Accounting, CRM, Project, HR). Templates pre-create widgets for the model if the app is installed. Open any dashboard from the home grid; the last opened dashboard is remembered per browser.
Duplicate, default & settings
Duplicate copies the dashboard with all widgets for the current user. Set default marks your preferred dashboard. The gear icon opens settings: default model, default date field/preset, theme, auto-refresh interval, visibility (Private / Shared / All Users).
Import & export JSON
Import loads a full dashboard configuration (widgets, filters, theme name, color mode). Export -> JSON configuration saves the same structure for backup, migration, or sharing between databases. Widget positions, domains, and chart types are preserved.
Cover image
Upload a cover image on the dashboard form. It appears on the Statistics home cards and on Configuration -> Dashboards Kanban cards, so boards are easy to recognise.
Sharing, visibility & access groups
Visibility: Private (owner only), Shared (owner plus Sharing tab), or All Users.
Access Groups: when visibility is All Users, pick one or more Odoo groups (for example Accounting / Invoicing & Banks). Only people in those groups see the dashboard. A normal Internal User or Dashboard User does not get every dashboard automatically. Dashboard Manager can still see all boards.
Sharing tab: add a line for a user or a group (not both on the same line), Read Only or Can Edit. Delete is available from the backend list/form.
Live numbers (invoices, stock, sales, and so on) always follow the logged-in user's normal Odoo rights. Opening a board does not require Access Rights on technical Models metadata.

3. Chart Types (9)
Bar, Line, Area - time series when a date field is set (day/week/month/quarter/year grouping), or categories when group-by is used. Click a bar/point to drill down to filtered records.
Pie & Doughnut - share of total by group-by field (e.g. order status, move type).
Stacked Bar & Horizontal Bar - compare categories; horizontal layout suits long labels (salesperson names, vendors).
Funnel - pipeline stages with labels beside bars (quotation -> sale -> done).
Gauge (chart) - visual dial; display-only on chart widget (use Gauge widget type for KPI-style gauge).
4. Data Configuration
Model selection
Any Odoo model the user can read - standard apps (sale.order, account.move) and custom models (sale.estimate, job.costing). Model search ranks business models first; type to find technical names.
Aggregation & measures
count, sum, avg, min, max. Sum/avg/min/max require a numeric or monetary measure field.
Group by & date grouping
Charts and rankings group by selection, many2one, boolean, etc. Date/datetime fields support day, week, month, quarter, year buckets for trend charts.
Domain filters (widget-level)
AND conditions in the widget editor: field, operator, static or dynamic value (Current record, Current user, Current company). Stored as JSON domain on the widget.
Default model, default date & relation field
On the dashboard you can set a default model (for example Journal Entry), a default date field, and a default date preset (This year, This month, All time, and so on). Widgets can follow that period. An optional relation field links widgets to the record the dashboard was opened from (e.g. show only lines for current sale.order).
Targets & comparison
Target value drives progress/gauge widgets. Comparison shows % change vs previous period or previous year on KPIs when a date field is set.
Click actions
Per widget: open List, Form, Pivot, Graph, external URL, or a configured Odoo Action when the user clicks the widget, a chart slice, or a table row.
5. Filters
Global filter bar on every dashboard: date preset (Today, This month, This year, Custom range, All time), company, user, plus custom dashboard filters you define.
Custom filters (Add Filter wizard): date, user, company, many2one, selection, numeric, text, or raw domain - bound to a model field and applied across widgets.
Date presets are converted to real date ranges before queries - safe for drill-down and KPI clicks in Odoo.
6. Layout, Edit Mode & Interaction
12-column grid - each widget has width (1-12) and height (1-8). Executive layouts mix 3-wide KPI strips, 8+4 chart pairs, and full-width tables.
Edit mode - click Edit, drag widgets to reposition, use w+/-/h+/- to resize, duplicate or delete from widget toolbar. Save persists layout; Discard reloads from database and cancels unsaved moves.
Full screen - expand icon on widget header opens a large dialog for charts and tables.
Drill-down - click KPI, chart slice, or table row to open Odoo with the widget domain + slice filter applied.
Auto-refresh - optional interval (minimum 10 seconds) reloads all widget data without leaving the page.
7. Export, Email & Scheduling
Export menu: CSV (flat table), Excel workbook (multi-sheet), PDF/Print (layout snapshot), JSON (full config).
Email wizard: send dashboard to partners with optional PDF and XLSX attachments using the mail template.
Scheduled emails (Statistics -> Scheduled Emails): daily/weekly/monthly cron sends dashboard PDF/XLSX to selected recipients.
8. Appearance & Themes
Eight preset themes (Default, Blue, Green, Purple, Dark, Professional, Modern, Minimal) control primary, secondary, background, card, text, border, and chart colors. Toggle Light / Dark color mode on the toolbar. Per-widget accent color and Font Awesome icon class supported. Each dashboard can have a cover image on home and Kanban cards.
Odoo Enterprise AI Integration - Full Guide
Universal Dashboard integrates with the official Odoo Enterprise AI app - not a custom OpenAI key or external API. When AI is installed, the module registers a Dashboard Assistant agent that can create dashboards, add widgets, list models/fields, update widgets, and explain live dashboard data - all through natural language in Odoo Discuss.
Requirements
- Odoo Enterprise with the AI application installed and configured by your administrator.
- Universal Dynamic Dashboard module upgraded to the latest version.
- User must have normal read/write access to dashboards and models - AI cannot bypass security.
- No API key is entered in Universal Dashboard. Odoo AI credentials are managed centrally in Odoo.
How to open the AI assistant
Click the AI button (magic wand icon) on:
- Statistics home - create new dashboards from scratch.
- Inside a dashboard - add widgets or ask questions about the open dashboard (context includes dashboard id, name, existing widgets, default model).
If AI is not installed, the button is hidden. If installed but setup fails, a clear error message is shown.
AI opens in the standard Odoo Discuss chat panel with a dedicated channel titled e.g. AI: Company Operations Overview.
What the AI can do (7 built-in tools)

Live dashboard refresh (no manual reload)
When AI creates or updates a widget, the open dashboard refreshes automatically:
- Backend sends a bus notification (
universal_dashboard.updated) to your user session. - While the AI chat is open, the client also polls every 2.5 seconds to pick up changes reliably.
- A status banner shows "Updating dashboard from AI..." during refresh.
- Widget layout positions are preserved when you are in Edit mode.
You do not need to press F5 or leave the dashboard after AI adds widgets.
Example prompts that work well
AI security & limitations
Security (by design)
- AI tools call the same
create_widget,write_widget, andget_runtime_datamethods as the UI - no sudo() on business data. - If you cannot read a model, AI cannot create widgets on it - you get an access error explained in chat.
- AI is instructed not to invent model or field names; it should call List Models / List Fields first.
What AI does not do
- Does not configure click actions, image uploads, or HTML widgets via tools (use the widget editor for those).
- Does not drag widgets on the grid - layout fine-tuning is manual in Edit mode.
- Does not send emails, export PDF, or manage scheduled reports (use toolbar/backend for that).
- Does not work without the Odoo AI app - there is no fallback to external ChatGPT/OpenAI keys in this module.
Agent registration
On module install/upgrade, Universal Dashboard auto-creates the Dashboard Assistant AI agent, topic, and server actions marked use_in_ai. Legacy custom API key settings were removed - only Odoo Enterprise AI is supported.
