Odoo 20 Accounting for Community Edition
One click turns Invoicing into a complete accounting application: financial reports, assets, budgets, bank reconciliation, statement import, customer follow-ups, cash forecast, cheque printing, currency rates and revaluation, fiscal years, period closing and recurring payments, with the accounting menus, groups and dashboards that make them work as one.
What this release adds
Nine capabilities written for Odoo 20 and one rewritten from scratch. All but the last are installed and arranged by this app, and the whole suite now speaks 28 languages. Everything below this section was already part of the suite and has been carried over.
Annual ReportNew
The financial year as one PDF: cover, contents, key figures, then the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss with last year beside them.Bank Reconciliation StatementNew
The bank balance reconciled to the cash your books believe in, with a schedule of every item the bank has not cleared yet.Accounting DashboardsNew
Eight spreadsheet dashboards in the Dashboards app: overview, profit and loss, balance sheet, receivables and payables, bank and cash, assets, budgets and follow-ups.Bank ReconciliationNew
A reconciliation screen of its own, with ranked suggestions, manual counterparts, reconciliation models and automatic reconciliation.Cash ForecastNew
The bank balance week by week or month by month, from the open invoices and bills, the payments in transit and the items you expect.Cheque PrintingNew
Configurable cheque formats for the cheques of any bank, positioned in millimetres, with payment stubs, a MICR line and a test print.Automatic Currency RatesNew
Rates updated daily, weekly or monthly from the ECB, Frankfurter, Open Exchange Rates or ExchangeRate-API, with a backup source.Currency RevaluationNew
The open foreign currency balances restated at the closing rate, as one adjustment entry reversed at the start of the next period.Budget Control of PurchasesNewSeparate module
A Committed column on every budget line showing what the confirmed purchase orders have already promised and not yet billed, and a warning — or a block — on the purchase orders that would go over budget. This one is not installed by this app: it is the module Odoo 20 Budget Management - Purchase (om_account_budget_purchase), free on the Odoo Apps store like the rest of the suite. Download it into your addons path and it installs itself as soon as Purchase and the budgets are both there, or install it by hand from the Apps list.Bank Statement ImportRebuilt
Rewritten for 20.0: CAMT.053, MT940, OFX, QFX, QIF, and CSV or Excel read through a column map of your own bank.In your language28 languages
Every screen, report, letter and email of the 18 modules is translated, with the accounting terms Odoo itself uses in each language.
Everything in one application
Installing this app installs and arranges the whole Odoo Mates accounting suite. Each feature below is a module of its own: install them together here, or one by one.

An accounting application, not an invoicing one
The Invoicing application becomes Accounting, and the menus of every installed app are arranged where an accountant looks for them: the daily work under Accounting, the reports under Reporting, the settings under Configuration.

The accounting dashboard: journals, what is left to reconcile and the cheques to print.

The Accounting menu: transactions, journals, bank and cash, reconciliation, ledgers, assets, budgets, recurring payments, cash forecast items and closing.
The statements your accountant asks for
Every report is filtered by company, journals, dates and target moves, printed in PDF, and built on report structures you can edit yourself.

Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss.

Cash Flow Statement, as a summary or detailed by account.

General Ledger and Partner Ledger.

Aged Partner Balance and Trial Balance.

Tax Report and Journals Audit.

The Reporting menu: statement, partner, tax, audit, daily and management reports.
The whole year, in one document
One PDF for the financial year: a cover page, a table of contents that names the page each statement starts on, the key figures, then the Balance Sheet and the Profit and Loss, each beside the same period a year earlier.

The cover, and the key figures with last year beside them.
Day Book, Cash Book and Bank Book
The three reports a bookkeeper prints every day, with the journals of the company proposed by default and the accounts of the cash and bank journals already selected.

Day Book.

Cash Book.

Bank Book.
Asset management with a depreciation board
Record an asset, preview its depreciation, confirm it, and let the entries be posted on their date. Modify, pause, sell or dispose of it at any time.

The depreciation board of a running asset.

The assets, with their gross value, depreciation and book value.

An asset category: the accounts, the journal and the method of similar assets.

The Depreciation Schedule of a period, grouped by category.

Assets Analysis.
Budgets, with what was planned and what was spent
Plan by budgetary position, by analytic account or by both, and follow on every line the actual amount, the theoretical amount expected today and the achievement.
Budget control of purchase orders
The two points above come from a module of their own that this app does not install for you:
Odoo 20 Budget Management - Purchase
(om_account_budget_purchase).
It is free on the Odoo Apps store, like every module of this suite.
Download it, drop it in your addons path, then update the apps list: it installs itself as soon as Purchase and the budgets are both installed, or you can install it by hand from Apps. Without it the budgets work exactly as described above, counting the vendor bills only.

A budget with its lines, the amounts achieved and the totals of the period.

The Budget vs Actual PDF.

Budget Analysis.

Warn the responsible of a budget, and block the documents that go over it.
Bank reconciliation, the way it should work
A screen of its own for the bank and cash transactions: pick a journal, see the open items that are likely to be the counterpart, and validate.

The bank reconciliation screen.

Match Journal Items, outside the bank.
Import the statements of your bank
CAMT.053 (ISO 20022), MT940 (SWIFT), OFX or QFX, QIF, and CSV or Excel with a map of the columns of your bank, kept for the next import. The journal is recognised from the account number in the file, the transactions already imported are skipped, and the file stays attached to the statement.

Import Statement.
What the bank says, against what the books say
A payment sits in an outstanding account until a bank statement clears it, so the ledger balance and the money you actually hold are rarely the same number. This statement prints the difference, and the items behind it.

The reconciliation, and the uncleared items behind it.
Get paid: customer follow-up management
One screen with the customers who owe you money and what to do today, and reminders that go out by email, by letter or by themselves.

The Follow-ups screen: who to remind today, at which level, for how much.

A follow-up plan and its levels.

The Customer Statement.

Follow-up Analysis.
Know what the bank balance will be
A forecast by week or by month, from the opening balance of the bank and cash accounts, the open invoices and bills on their due date, the payments not yet reconciled, and the items you expect yourself.

The cash forecast, month by month.

The expected receipts and payments you enter yourself.
Print the cheques of any bank
Place every printed field at an exact position in millimetres, on a cheque book leaf or on a voucher cheque, and calibrate it with a test print.

A cheque format: every field placed in millimetres from the top left corner.

The cheque formats installed with the module.

A printed cheque with its payment stub.
Rates that update themselves, balances restated at the closing rate

Automatic currency rates and currency revaluation in the accounting settings.

The revaluation: what is open, what is in the books, and the adjustment.
Fiscal years, period closing and lock dates
Close a month with a checklist, close a year with an entry, and lock what must not move any more.

The closing of a period: the automatic checks and the tasks of the team.

The fiscal years of the company.

The lock dates, in one wizard.
Rents, leases and subscriptions paid by themselves

A recurring payment and the payments it generated.

The recurring templates.
Eight accounting dashboards in the Dashboards app
Spreadsheet dashboards over the period of your choice, compared with the same period last year or with the previous one, adding up the companies of the switcher.

The Accounting Overview.

Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Receivables and Payables, Bank and Cash.

Assets, Budgets, and Follow-ups and Cash Forecast.
The entries, for every accounting user
The Journal Items menu is moved to the top of its section and opened to every accounting user, with a Reconcile action for the accountants. The In Payment status is kept on the invoices, so a registered payment does not mark an invoice paid before the payment is reconciled.

Journal Items.
Need financial reports on screen, with filters and Excel?
The enhanced accounting reports open the same statements in the web client, with drill down, comparisons and an export to PDF and Excel.

A 47-page guide, written for the person keeping the books
Not a feature list — a manual. It goes from an empty database to a closed period: the order to set things up in, the chart of accounts and the journals, the opening balances, the daily invoices, bills and payments, the bank statement and its reconciliation, the assets, the budgets, the follow-ups, the cash forecast, the post-dated cheques, the currencies, the closing routine and every report — with the screens shown at each step.
Parts 1–5 Set up and record
Rights, a settings checklist from the fiscal localisation to cheque layouts, chart of accounts, journals, fiscal years, opening balances, invoices, bills, journal entries, payments, recurring payments and cheque printing.Parts 6–11 Run the business
Statement import and file maps, bank reconciliation, Match Journal Items, assets, budgets, follow-ups and statements, cash forecast and the currencies.Parts 12–15 Close and check
Lock dates, period and year-end closing, every report and dashboard — the annual report and the bank reconciliation statement among them — the daily, monthly and yearly routines, and what to look at when something seems wrong.static/description/user_guide.pdfHow to install it
The module is a folder that Odoo has to find. Put it in the
addons_path of your Odoo, restart the service and install it from the Apps
screen. Where the addons path lives depends on how your Odoo was installed.
On premise, installed from the .deb or .rpm package
- Keep your own modules apart from the ones of Odoo, for example in
/opt/odoo/custom-addons, and copy this module there. - Open
/etc/odoo/odoo.confand add that directory toaddons_path, separated from the others by a comma:
addons_path = /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/odoo/addons,/opt/odoo/custom-addons - Give the odoo user the right to read it:
sudo chown -R odoo: /opt/odoo/custom-addons - Restart the service:
sudo service odoo restart
On a server or a local machine, running from the sources
- Copy the module, or clone the repository, into the directory you keep your modules in.
- Name that directory in the
addons_pathof your configuration file, or on the command line:
./odoo-bin -c odoo.conf --addons-path=addons,/path/to/odooapps - Stop and start
odoo-binagain.
Then, in Odoo itself
- Turn on the developer mode: Settings → General Settings, at the bottom, Activate the developer mode. Without it the next menu is not shown.
- Open Apps and click Update Apps List, so that Odoo reads the new directory.
- Clear the Apps filter of the search box, look for Odoo 20 Accounting Community and install it. It installs the modules it is made of and arranges their menus.
Please do not install it with Apps → Import Module.
That screen uploads a zip file and is meant for data modules, the ones that carry no Python. The modules on
this page carry Python, so an import leaves them half loaded and ends on an error about a missing field, a
view or a record — which reads like a bug in the module and is not one. Almost every installation
problem reported to us comes from this screen.
Something still failing? Write to odoomates@gmail.com with the version of Odoo and the error, and we will look at it.
Questions we get
How do I skip the In Payment status and go straight to Paid?
Watch the answer on YouTube.
Do I need Odoo Enterprise?
No. Everything on this page runs on the Community Edition.
How do I use it in my language?
Add your language in Settings > Languages and pick it in your user preferences: the suite follows it. The
translations are new, so if a term reads wrong for an accountant of your country, tell us and we will fix it.
Can I install only a part of it?
Yes. Each feature is a module of its own and can be installed alone; this app installs them together and
arranges their menus.
