Installation

  1. Install the module from Apps. Required modules: CRM, Sales, Purchase, Accounting, and Inventory.
  2. Assign users a security group: WhatsApp User, WhatsApp Manager, or WhatsApp Admin.
  3. Navigate to WhatsApp Business > Configuration > Providers and create your first provider.
  4. Create and validate one or more message templates before using document-based sending.
⚠ Important: This module does not create or register your WhatsApp Business Account. Complete the onboarding and approval flow with your provider or Meta directly before configuring Odoo.

Provider Setup

Configure a Provider

  • Name: e.g. Meta Production
  • Company: Odoo company that owns the sender
  • Provider Type: Generic REST for production
  • Test URL: endpoint to validate credentials
  • Send URL: endpoint for outgoing messages
  • Auth: Bearer Token, API Key, or None
  • Extra Headers: optional JSON for custom headers

WhatsApp Approval Flow

  • Create or connect a Meta Business portfolio
  • Create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
  • Add and verify your sending phone number
  • Complete business verification if required
  • Submit message templates for Meta approval
  • Generate API credentials and webhook endpoints

📚 Note: The live connector in this release is the Generic REST driver. For direct Meta or Twilio compatibility, use a middleware endpoint or extend the provider adapter.

Template Setup

Create a Template

  1. Open WhatsApp Business > Configuration > Templates.
  2. Set template code, target model, category, and body.
  3. Use placeholders: {{ partner.name }}, {{ object.name }}.
  4. Click Validate Template to activate.

Test a Template

  1. Open any template and click Test Template.
  2. Enter a sample record ID from the target model.
  3. Preview the rendered message before production use.
Template Creation
Template Builder: Create message templates with dynamic placeholders. Choose the target model (Sales, CRM, Invoice, etc.) and define header, body, and footer sections.
Template Testing
Template Preview: Test your template with real record data before going live. The wizard renders all placeholders and shows the final message exactly as the recipient will see it.

How to Send Messages

💡 From Any Document

  1. Open any supported document (Invoice, Sales Order, Lead, etc.).
  2. Click the Send WhatsApp button in the header.
  3. Select a validated template or type a manual message.
  4. Queue immediately or schedule for a specific time.
  5. Track the result via the WhatsApp smart button.

👥 Bulk Send

  1. Select multiple records from any list view.
  2. Choose Send Bulk WhatsApp from actions.
  3. Pick a validated template for all selected records.
  4. The wizard automatically skips opted-out and invalid recipients.
Send WhatsApp Wizard
Send WhatsApp Wizard: The compose popup lets you pick a template, select a recipient, preview the rendered message, and queue it for delivery — all from within the document form.

Invoice WhatsApp Button
Invoice Integration: Send payment reminders directly from the invoice form. The WhatsApp smart button shows how many messages have been sent for this record.

Opt-out Partners marked WhatsApp Opt Out are automatically blocked from sends.
Phone Fallback Checks WhatsApp Number → Mobile → Phone in order.
Free Text Available when your provider contract and WhatsApp session window allow it.
Auto Retry Failed queue items are rescheduled based on company retry settings.
Log Cleanup Automated cron removes old completed logs per company retention policy.
