Configuration
In the General Settings menu, there is an option called Product Alternatives where users can activate this feature. From here, you can enable it for Sales, Manufacturing, or both as per your business needs. Once activated, the feature becomes available in the respective modules, allowing users to manage product alternatives and substitutes easily.
Sales Flow
Start by defining alternative products directly from the product form. When you add an alternative product, the system automatically creates a two-way link, meaning both products will appear as alternatives for each other.
While preparing a Sales Quotation, users can click the Alternative Products button to open a popup. This popup displays products from the quotation, where users can select alternatives, set quantities, and choose between Add or Replace actions. The screen also includes a stock visibility widget that shows real-time quantities for the main and alternative products across all warehouses.
Once the selections are confirmed, the system automatically updates the quotation lines based on the chosen configuration, ensuring smooth order management even when certain products are not available.
Manufacturing Flow
In the Bill of Materials (BoM), users can define multiple substitute components for each main product component. This setup allows flexibility during the manufacturing process if a component is unavailable.
When a Manufacturing Order is confirmed, a button labeled Add Alternatives appears. By clicking it, users can open a popup where they select a component from the MO and choose an alternative from the BoM-defined list. The user can then specify the quantity and select whether to Add a new line or Replace the existing one.
This feature ensures that production can continue seamlessly without any delay caused by missing components or material shortages.
