Checkout Email Lock
This module prevents changing email addresses for partners with portal users during checkout. For instance, registered clients cannot change the email of the billing address by themselves during checkout, they need to contact us to change it.
Problem Statement
In the Odoo online shop, customer accounts (partners) are connected to portal users. When a customer changes their email address during checkout, the email address of the associated portal user remains unchanged. This will make the clients confused because:
- The email used for login(email of the portal user) differs from the one receiving notification like order confirmations, etc., which is the email of the partner.
- Communications from Odoo may be sent to different email addresses. For instance, reset password email will be sent to the email of partner, but the login email is the email of portal user.
Our Solution
This module addresses this issue by:
- Making email fields "read-only" for partners with portal user
- Displaying a clear error message informing customers to contact support for email changes
- Email editing for all other cases will work as usual, e.g., changing email of shipping addresses
This approach ensures data consistency across the platform and improves the overall user experience.
