Process costing that is actually transparent
Break every manufacturing order into material, labour, and overhead cost, allocate shared cost across by-products, preview the numbers before you commit, and keep the product cost master in sync — all inside Odoo MRP.
Native Odoo values a finished product mainly from its bill of material and, at best, a flat work-center rate. It never splits a run into material, labour, and overhead, never divides shared cost across by-products, and never keeps the product cost current. Accountants rebuild it all in spreadsheets.
One coherent app for manufacturing process costing: an auditable material, labour, and overhead breakdown per order, configurable by-product cost allocation, a cost preview before you commit, and an automatic product cost update — with a full before-and-after audit trail.
Everything cost accounting needs
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Material, Labour & Overhead
Every manufacturing order is broken into material cost, labour cost, and overhead cost, so inventory valuation and margin analysis rest on real numbers, not estimates.
Manual or Work-Center Costing
Choose the costing method right on the manufacturing order: enter figures by hand, or compute labour and overhead automatically from work-order time and per-work-center rates.
Work-Center Rates
Configure a labour rate and an overhead rate per hour on each work center. Automatic MRP costing then draws directly from actual work-order duration — no re-typing each run.
By-Product Cost Allocation
Split shared run cost across a main product and multiple by-products using a configurable cost-share percentage, with a visual allocation table showing exactly where each figure lands.
Cost Preview Before Commit
See the full material, labour, overhead, and additional-cost breakdown — plus the by-product split and variance — in a preview before any number is written anywhere.
Additional Cost Capture
Record supplemental charges — energy, freight-in, consumables, subcontracting — as typed cost lines, optionally tagged to a cost center, and roll them into the product cost.
Product Cost Update & Audit
Push the actual run cost onto the product master with a before-and-after preview and delta, and keep a permanent audit log of what changed, when, and which order drove it.
Standard-vs-Actual Variance
Compare each run against its standard reference cost and read the variance at a glance, so a cost accountant can explain exactly why a batch cost more or less than expected.
Guided Setup & PDF Report
A first-run wizard validates inventory valuation and account mappings before you begin, and a printable per-run PDF cost report is ready for audit and internal review.
How it works
Configure Rates
Set labour and overhead rates per work center and run the guided setup check.
Compute the Cost
Pick manual or work-center costing, add extra charges, and compute the run.
Preview & Allocate
Review the breakdown, variance, and by-product split before committing.
Update & Audit
Push the cost to the product master and keep the before-and-after record.

Manufacturing orders overview — process costing lives right alongside your production runs.
The Process Costing tab: costing method, material, labour, overhead, and additional cost, totals, unit cost, and standard-vs-actual variance — all in context.
Per-work-center labour rate and overhead rate that drive automatic work-center costing.
The cost preview: full breakdown, variance, and a visual by-product allocation table showing the main product and each by-product share.
Update the product cost master with a clear current cost, proposed cost, and the delta before you confirm.
The cost update history — a permanent before-and-after audit trail of every product cost change, per manufacturing order.
The guided setup wizard validates inventory valuation and account mappings and tells you exactly what is still required.
Manufacturing settings: choose the default costing method and auto-update the product cost when an order is marked done.
Frequently asked
How is labour and overhead calculated automatically?
In work-center costing mode the module reads each work order's duration and multiplies it by the labour and overhead rates you set on the work center, adding the native machine cost per hour to overhead. Material cost comes from the components consumed.
How does by-product cost allocation work?
Each by-product carries a cost-share percentage. The main product absorbs the remainder, and the preview shows the resulting allocation across every output — supporting multiple by-products per run.
Will it overwrite my product cost without a record?
Never silently. Every product cost update shows the current cost, the proposed cost, and the delta before you confirm, and writes a permanent audit-log entry recording who changed it and which order drove the change.
What do I need to configure before using it?
A guided setup wizard checks your inventory valuation mode and stock account mappings and flags anything missing, so you are not left guessing why costs are not posting to the ledger. It builds on Odoo MRP and Accounting.
