Take control of follower noise in Odoo
Disable automatic follower subscription per document type, give every user a self-service opt-out, and clean up years of accumulated followers — all with a full audit trail.
Odoo auto-subscribes users as followers on sales orders, invoices, RFQs, and dozens of other documents the moment they touch one — as a salesperson, approver, or assignee. The result is a steady stream of notification emails and chatter noise that most people never asked for and quickly learn to ignore, burying the messages that actually matter.
No Auto Subscription lets administrators disable automatic follower subscription per document type, gives every user a self-service preference center to opt out on their own, and ships a bulk cleanup wizard to unsubscribe existing over-subscribed followers in one pass — with every rule change tracked in the chatter for full auditability.
Everything you need to tame notifications
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Per-document-type rules
Disable automatic follower subscription independently for Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Invoices, or any other mail-thread model — no more all-or-nothing switch.
Existing followers preserved
Turning a rule on never removes anyone who is already following a record. Only new automatic subscriptions are suppressed; manual follows still work exactly as before.
Self-service preference center
Every internal user gets a My Preferences list to opt out of auto-subscription on the document types they choose, without waiting on an administrator.
Manager oversight, one list
Administrators see every user's preferences side by side in a single All Preferences view, making it easy to confirm who is opted out and why.
Full audit trail
Every rule you create or change is tracked in the chatter, so you can always answer why a user stopped or started receiving notifications on a given document type.
Bulk cleanup wizard
Retroactively unsubscribe legacy over-subscribed followers from any model in a single action, instead of unfollowing records one at a time.
Private by default
Record rules keep each user's preferences visible only to themselves and to managers, so personal notification settings stay personal.
How it works
Define auto-subscribe rules
Pick a document type and toggle auto-subscribe on or off. Every change is tracked in the chatter.
Users set their own opt-outs
From My Preferences, any internal user adds a personal opt-out for the document types they choose.
Managers audit from one list
All Preferences shows every user's settings together, so administrators can verify configuration at a glance.
Clean up legacy followers
Run the bulk unsubscribe wizard against any model to clear out followers added before the rules existed.
See it in action
Every screen shown below is a real, working part of the module.
Every document type with an active rule, listed with its current on/off state, in one place.
Each rule's form shows a full chatter history of every change — when auto-subscribe was toggled and by whom.
Any internal user can open My Preferences to see and manage their own auto-subscribe opt-outs by document type.
Administrators get an All Preferences view across every user, so oversight never requires digging through individual accounts.
Each preference record links a user to a document type and the auto-subscribe opt-out status in one simple form.
The cleanup wizard shows how many followers exist on a model before you commit to a bulk unsubscribe.
Frequently asked
Will disabling auto-subscribe unfollow people who are already following a record?
No. Existing and manually added followers are always preserved; the rules only stop new automatic subscriptions from being added going forward.
Can I disable auto-subscribe for some document types and leave it on for others?
Yes. Rules are configured per document type, so you can disable auto-subscribe for Sales Orders and Purchase Orders while leaving Invoices untouched, for example.
Can individual users opt out without asking an administrator?
Yes. Every internal user has a My Preferences list where they can add a personal opt-out for any document type, with no administrator involvement required.
How do I clean up years of accumulated followers from before I installed the app?
Use the built-in cleanup wizard. Pick a document type, review the follower count, and unsubscribe everyone with an existing automatic subscription in one action.
