Segment every partner with purpose instead of guesswork
Partner Segmentation gives sales, purchasing, and finance teams one hierarchical, multi-company system for customer and vendor segments, industry classification, default assignment rules, and bulk operations — replacing scattered tags with a structure your whole team can trust.
Odoo's native partner tags are flat and undifferentiated between customer and vendor contexts, with no hierarchy, no default-assignment automation, and no company-scoped behavior. As soon as a business grows past a handful of contacts — or runs more than one company — tagging becomes inconsistent, unreportable, and impossible to enforce.
Partner Segmentation adds a dedicated, typed segment model with a visual parent-child hierarchy, circular-reference protection, configurable auto-assignment rules, bulk reassignment with a live impact preview, multi-company sharing or isolation, a hierarchical industry classification, and analytics — all from one coherent app.
Everything you need to segment contacts
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Hierarchical Segments
Build parent-child segment trees with a computed complete-name path, so large partner bases stay organized at any depth.
Customer & Vendor Typing
Every segment is typed as Customer, Vendor, or Both, with dedicated menus so sales and purchasing manage their own segments without collision.
Circular-Reference Protection
Assigning a parent that would create a loop is blocked immediately with a clear validation error, before it ever reaches the database.
Default Assignment Rules
Define ordered rules that automatically apply a segment to new partners matching a domain, so categorization stays consistent without manual tagging.
Bulk Reassignment with Impact Preview
Add, remove, or replace segments across many contacts at once, with a live affected-partner count shown before you apply the change.
Multi-Company Scoping
Share a segment across every company or isolate it to one, enforced by a record rule so users only see segments their companies can access.
Hierarchical Industry Classification
Extend Odoo's built-in industry field with a codeable parent-child tree and inline descriptions, turning a flat list into a browsable classification.
Segment Analytics
A dedicated pivot and graph report breaks partner counts down by segment, type, and company for fast reporting.
Segments Everywhere on the Partner
Segments and industry are visible and filterable directly on the contact form, list, and search — consistent everywhere a partner appears.
How it works
Build Your Segment Tree
Create top-level and nested segments under Customer, Vendor, or Both, with codes and colors that match your business structure.
Set Assignment Rules
Configure domain-based rules so matching partners are segmented automatically the moment they are created.
Assign & Bulk-Manage
Tag partners individually, or select many at once and use the bulk wizard to add, remove, or replace segments with an impact preview.
Filter, Report & Analyze
Group kanbans and lists by segment, filter mailings and workflows, and review the pivot and graph report for a full breakdown.
See it in action
A closer look at segment management, industry classification, rules, analytics, and contact integration.
The full segment list shows the hierarchy through the complete-name path, with type badges and per-company scoping at a glance.
Kanban view groups segments visually, colored per segment with partner counts on each card.
A segment's form shows smart buttons for its partners and sub-segments alongside chatter for tracking changes.
The Customer Segments menu filters to customer and shared segments only, so sales manages its own view.
The Vendor Segments menu mirrors the customer view for purchasing, filtered to vendor and shared segments.
Industries now form a browsable hierarchy with codes, extending Odoo's flat industry list into a real classification tree.
Each industry shows its parent, code, description, and child industries directly on the form.
Assignment rules apply a segment automatically to new partners that match a configurable domain.
The segment analysis pivot breaks partner counts down by segment and type for fast reporting.
The same data in a bar graph makes segment size comparisons immediate.
Segments and industry are visible and editable right on the contact form, alongside every other partner detail.
A settings toggle controls whether default assignment rules apply automatically on partner creation.
Frequently asked
Does this replace Odoo's native partner tags?
No. Partner Segmentation adds a separate, purpose-built segment model alongside Odoo's tags, with typing, hierarchy, multi-company scoping, and rules that native tags don't support. Your existing tags are untouched.
Can I control which company sees a segment?
Yes. Each segment can be shared across every company or isolated to a single company, enforced by a record rule so users only see the segments their active companies can access.
How do the default assignment rules work?
Configure ordered rules with a partner domain and a segment. Matching partners are tagged automatically on creation, and the behavior can be toggled off entirely from Settings.
Is the industry classification pre-loaded with ISIC codes?
The module ships a hierarchical, codeable industry tree with sample data so you can build your own classification. It does not include the full ISIC codelist out of the box.
