Stop rebuilding the same project from scratch
Define named project and task templates with preset assignees, stages, tags, and relative schedules — then preview and apply them in one click, to new projects, existing ones, or many at once.
Agencies, consultancies, and delivery teams run the same kind of project over and over — client onboarding, a website launch, a compliance audit — yet Odoo makes every project manager rebuild the checklist by hand each time. Native project duplication just copies old clutter instead of a clean, purpose-built plan, so tasks get forgotten, assignees are guessed at, and dates are set manually one by one.
Build a reusable library of named templates whose tasks already carry the right assignee, stage, tags, and priority, scheduled by day-offset and duration from the project start. Preview the exact tasks and dates a template will produce, then apply it to a new project, an in-flight one, or several projects at once — with every application logged.
Everything a template library needs
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Reusable Template Library
Keep a named, browsable catalog of project and task templates so any team member can spin up the right structure in seconds.
Preset Task Properties
Each template task carries its own assignee, stage, tags, priority, and allocated hours, so generated work needs no manual touch-up.
Automatic Date Scheduling
Planned start and end dates are computed from each task’s day-offset and duration relative to the project start — applied on any date, the schedule is always correct.
Preview Before You Apply
A live preview shows every task, assignee, stage, and computed date before anything is written, so mistakes are caught before they happen.
Apply to Existing, New, or Many Projects
Inject a template into an already-running project, spin up a brand-new one, or apply it in bulk across several projects at once.
Default Template on Project Creation
Set a default template on a project so its tasks are auto-populated the moment the project is created — a blank project is never the starting point.
Inheritance & Task Dependencies
Parent template tasks auto-create their subtasks, and predecessor relationships carry over, so multi-level processes generate correctly sequenced work in one action.
Stage & Role-Based Availability
Restrict a template to the project stages it applies to and to the roles allowed to use it, so users only ever see relevant options.
Versioning & Application Log
Templates are versioned with a change note, every application is logged, and generated tasks keep provenance back to their source template.
How it works
Build a template
Name it, add tasks with assignees, stages, tags, and a day-offset plus duration for each one.
Pick a target & preview
Choose an existing project, several at once, or create a new one, then set the start date and review the computed preview.
Apply it
Generate every task in one click, with parent/subtask structure and dependencies carried across automatically.
Track the result
Check the application log and each generated task’s Template Origin to see exactly what came from where.
See it in action
From the template library to a scheduled, tracked project.
Browse the template library as colored kanban cards, each showing its task count, total span, and version at a glance.
The list view adds task count, total span, version, and how many times each template has been applied, with a quick active toggle.
Inside a template, each task lists its stage, assignees, day-offset, duration, parent task, tags, and priority — all preset in advance.
Choose the mode — existing project(s), several at once, or a new project — then set a start date and preview every task and its computed planned start/end before you apply.
Once applied, the generated tasks land on the dedicated planning calendar, scheduled automatically from the template.
Switch freely between list, kanban, and calendar to check the schedule at whatever level of detail you need.
Every generated task keeps a Template Origin tab, so you can always trace it back to the template and application that created it.
Every application is logged with the template, target project, task count, and who applied it — a full audit trail out of the box.
Frequently asked
Can I apply a template to a project that already exists?
Yes. Apply any template to an existing, in-flight project, to several existing projects at once (bulk), or use it to create a brand-new project from scratch.
How are task dates calculated?
Each template task has a day-offset and a duration relative to the project start date you choose. Planned start and end dates are computed automatically, and you see them in the preview before anything is generated.
Can I restrict who sees or uses a template?
Yes. Each template can be restricted to specific project stages and to specific user roles, so people only ever see templates that are relevant and permitted to them.
Does this include Sales Order automation or CSV import?
Not in this release. This version focuses on the core template library, preview-before-apply workflow, automatic scheduling, inheritance, dependencies, and the versioning/application log described above.
