Stop guessing, start tracking real time
A turnkey community timer for Odoo Project — start, pause, resume and stop from any task view, with a live systray stopwatch and automatic timesheet entries.
Teams reconstruct timesheet entries from memory after the work is already done, which produces inaccurate billing and makes timesheet entry feel like a disconnected chore employees skip entirely. Odoo's default task scheduling does not capture actual worked time, and if a timer is started in one browser tab there is no guarantee it stays consistent when the same task is reopened elsewhere.
One click starts a live timer directly from the task's Kanban card, list row, or form, and a timesheet line is created and kept in sync automatically as you pause, resume, or stop. The server is the single source of truth, so the running/paused state and elapsed time stay identical across every open tab, device, and login — and a single-active-timer rule with a persistent lock indicator makes double-tracking impossible to miss.
Everything a professional services team needs to capture real time
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Start, pause, resume, stop
Full timer control from the task Kanban card, list row, or form — no separate screen required to log time as you work.
Live systray stopwatch
A ticking HH:MM:SS indicator sits in the systray on every screen, so the active task and elapsed time are always visible — no page refresh needed.
Automatic timesheet entries
A timesheet line is created the moment a timer starts and its duration is kept in sync on every pause and stop — no manual entry, no rounding errors.
Single-active-timer lock
Each user can run only one timer at a time. A persistent, system-wide warning shows exactly which task is already being tracked before double work happens.
Cross-tab & cross-session sync
The server is the single source of truth, so a timer started in one tab, device, or login session shows the exact same running state everywhere else instantly.
Color-coded state everywhere
Running and paused timers are shown with clear, distinct color-coded badges on the task and in the manager's timer list, removing any ambiguity about state.
Kanban, list & form coverage
Timer buttons appear on every view where a task shows up, so teams working from a Kanban board never need to open the form just to log time.
Per-user timer isolation
Every user's start, pause, and stop actions only affect their own tracked time, so multiple people can work the same shared task without interfering with each other.
Manager oversight list
Project managers get a dedicated Timers menu showing every active and paused timer across the team, with task, project, and user at a glance.
How it works
Start the timer
Click Start on any task from its Kanban card, list row, or form. A timesheet line is created instantly.
Watch it tick live
The systray shows a live, color-coded HH:MM:SS stopwatch and the task name on every screen you visit.
Pause or resume anytime
Step away and pause with one click; resume later and the accumulated time is preserved exactly.
Stop and log the time
Click Stop and the final duration is written to the timesheet line automatically — ready to bill.
See it in action
Real Odoo screens showing the timer running on a task and the manager oversight list.
Open a task while its timer is running and see the live stopwatch, Pause and Stop buttons, and the systray pill all in sync.
Start, pause, resume, or stop a timer directly from the Kanban board — no need to open a task to log time.
The same one-click timer controls are available in list view, so teams that track work in tables lose no functionality.
Project managers see every active and paused timer across the team in one color-coded list, with task, project, and user at a glance.
Frequently asked
Does this require Odoo Enterprise or the Timesheets Grid app?
No. This is a fully turnkey Community module built on the standard Project and Timesheets apps. It does not depend on any Enterprise addon.
Can two people run a timer on the same task at once?
Yes. Each user's timer is independent, so two teammates can each track their own time on a shared task without affecting each other's entries.
What happens if I start a timer on one task while another is still running?
Each user can only have one active timer at a time. If you try to start a second one, you are stopped with a clear message naming the task that is already being tracked.
Does the timer stay accurate if I close the browser or switch devices?
Yes. The elapsed time is always computed on the server, so reopening the task later, in another tab, or from a different device shows the exact same running state and duration.
