Foggy MCP Gateway
Secure MCP access for Odoo data queries and lightweight evaluation
What is Foggy MCP Gateway?
Foggy MCP Gateway is an Odoo addon that exposes permission-aware business data queries through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It lets external MCP clients query approved Odoo data without giving those clients direct database access.
Community Edition is designed for personal users, developers, and lightweight technical evaluation. It focuses on the open query engine adoption path and keeps the Odoo runtime restrained: no built-in AI Chat, no commercial audit workflow, and no export or governance suite.
This release targets Odoo 17.0 and uses the odoo17 model namespace. The addon version follows the Odoo 17 series and is not a minimum Odoo server patch requirement.
Database support is currently scoped to PostgreSQL, the standard Odoo database backend. MySQL is not an officially supported target for this Odoo bridge release.

Key Features
Embedded by Default
The included Python engine can run inside the Odoo process for a simple Community setup. Advanced deployments can point the gateway at a self-hosted external Foggy service.
Odoo-Native Security
API keys are scoped to Odoo users. ir.model.access and ir.rule checks are evaluated server-side, then injected into every query so clients cannot bypass Odoo permissions.
12 Query Models
Pre-built Community query models cover Sales, Purchases, Accounting, Inventory, Products, HR, Contacts, Companies, and CRM Leads for Odoo 17 evaluation scenarios.
Query Capabilities
| Feature | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions & Captions | Query related entity names through caption fields | partner$caption, company$caption |
| Aggregations | SUM, COUNT, AVG, MIN, and MAX with grouped results | sum(amountTotal) as total |
| DISTINCT | Enumerate unique values for exploration | distinct: true, columns: ['state'] |
| Subtotals | Return subtotal and grand total rows | withSubtotals: true |
| Hierarchy Filters | Apply organization and company hierarchy filters | selfAndDescendantsOf, selfAndAncestorsOf |
| Slice Filters | Use server-side WHERE conditions with common operators | =, !=, >, like, in, isNotNull |
Community source code and issue tracking are available on GitHub . Need built-in AI Chat, export, audit, governance, or production onboarding? See the commercial edition .

Data Handling
No third-party cloud calls are made by this addon. In embedded mode, query execution runs inside the Odoo process and reads the Odoo PostgreSQL database directly. In gateway mode, requests are forwarded only to the self-hosted Foggy service that you configure.
- Odoo permissions are applied before every query reaches the engine.
- HTTPS is recommended for any exposed Odoo endpoint.
- No telemetry, analytics, or external provider SDK is required by the addon.
- External MCP clients remain subject to your own client and provider settings.
Requirements
- Odoo 17.0 Community or Enterprise
- PostgreSQL 12+ as the validated database target
- Python dependencies:
asyncpg, pydantic,PyYAML - Foggy Engine: embedded Python engine by default, optional self-hosted external service
- No provider SDK dependency: no OpenAI or Anthropic package is required by this addon
FAQ
Do I need a separate Foggy server?
No. The embedded Python engine is the recommended Community setup.
Can I use a separate self-hosted Foggy service?
Yes. Use gateway mode when you want an external service boundary that you operate yourself.
Does this addon include built-in AI Chat?
No. Community exposes MCP tools for external clients; in-Odoo chat is a commercial capability.
Does the addon send data to a third-party LLM provider?
No. External clients and their provider settings are controlled outside this addon.

where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable
by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their
Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s)
with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You
institute patent litigation against any entity (including a
cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work
or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct
or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses
granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate
as of the date such litigation is filed.
4. Redistribution. You may reproduce and distribute copies of the

or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided
that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed
as modifying the License.
You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and
may provide additional or different license terms and conditions
for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or
for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use,
reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with
the conditions stated in this License.
5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise,
any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work
by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of
this License, without any additional terms or conditions.
Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify

with Licensor regarding such Contributions.
6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade

liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special,
incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a
result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the
Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill,
work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all
other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor
has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing
the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer,
and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity,
or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this
License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only
on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf
of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify,
defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability
incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason
of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.
