Separate, Configurable Sequences for Quotations and Sales Orders in Odoo
This Odoo Sales extension by Odonity gives every company full control over how Quotations and Sales Orders are numbered — independently, with custom prefixes, padding, and fiscal year reset options.

How It Works
- Go to Sales → Configuration → Sale Sequence Pro.
- Create a configuration for your company.
- Set your Quotation prefix (e.g. QUO/%(year)s/) and Sales Order prefix (e.g. SO/%(year)s/).
- Configure padding, reset frequency, and reset-to-draft behavior.
- Click Apply Sequences — your sequences are created and linked.
- New Quotations will now receive QUO numbers; confirmed orders receive SO numbers.
Prefix Variables
Use these variables in your prefix fields:
- %(year)s — replaced with the 4-digit current year (e.g. 2025)
- %(month)s — replaced with the 2-digit current month (e.g. 01–12)
- %(day)s — replaced with the 2-digit current day
Example prefixes:
- QUO/%(year)s/ → QUO/2025/00001
- SO/%(year)s/%(month)s/ → SO/2025/04/00001
- QUOTE- → QUOTE-00001
Reset-to-Draft & Re-Confirm Behavior
When a confirmed Sales Order is reset to draft, behavior depends on the selected option:
- Keep SO — Reuse on Re-Confirm (Audit-Safe): The SO number is retained on draft. When re-confirmed, the same SO number is reused — no new sequence number is consumed. Recommended for most businesses.
- Reassign New QUO — New SO on Re-Confirm: A fresh Quotation number is assigned on reset to draft. When re-confirmed, a brand new Sales Order number is issued. Suitable for businesses that treat reset orders as entirely new transactions.
- Keep SO on Draft — New SO on Re-Confirm: The SO number remains visible on the draft for reference. When re-confirmed, a new Sales Order number is issued. Useful when the original SO number must be visually traceable but the re-confirmed order needs a distinct reference.
Manual Reference Override
Sales Managers can enter a custom reference in the Manual Reference field on any draft or sent quotation. On save, the order's reference is updated and an entry is automatically posted in the chatter showing:
- Who made the change
- The old reference
- The new reference
Installation
- Copy this module into your Odoo custom addons directory.
- Restart the Odoo server.
- Activate Developer Mode (Settings → General Settings → Developer Tools).
- Go to Apps, search for Sale Sequence Pro, and install.
- Navigate to Sales → Configuration → Sale Sequence Pro to configure.
