Install the module, paste your API key, and start generating AI replies.

Configure Your AI Provider

Go to AI Chatter → Configuration → Settings. Select your provider (OpenAI, Anthropic or Custom), paste your API Key, choose the Model Name (e.g. gpt-4o-mini, claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022), and set the Base URL (leave default for OpenAI, change for custom endpoints like Deepseek or Groq).

Set Your Defaults

On the same settings page, configure:

  • Default Tone — Professional, Friendly or Formal
  • Max Response Words — controls AI verbosity (default 150)
  • Response Language — Auto-detect or force English, Arabic, French, Spanish, German, Turkish
  • Global Custom Prompt — override the entire AI system prompt for all models (optional)
  • Daily Limit per User — cap AI usage per user per day (0 = unlimited)
  • Allowed Models — "All Models" or "Whitelisted Models Only"

Optional: Per-Model Rules

Go to AI Chatter → Configuration → Model Rules to create fine-grained rules for specific Odoo models. For each model you can set:

  • Enable/Disable — block AI Draft for a specific model
  • Tone Override — use a different tone than the global default
  • Max Words Override — shorter or longer replies per model
  • Custom System Prompt — completely different AI behaviour for this model

Example: set CRM leads to "Friendly" tone with a max of 80 words, while Helpdesk tickets use "Professional" tone with a custom prompt focused on troubleshooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an OpenAI account?

You need an API key from at least one provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or any OpenAI-compatible service). The module itself does not include AI credits — you bring your own key and pay the provider directly for usage.

Does it work with self-hosted / local LLMs?

Yes. Any endpoint that speaks the OpenAI /v1/chat/completions protocol works. This includes Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, LocalAI, and llama.cpp server. Set the provider to "Custom" and enter your local URL.

Is my data sent to external servers?

The module sends record field values and recent chatter messages to your configured AI provider for processing. If data privacy is a concern, use a self-hosted LLM — no data leaves your network.

Which Odoo models are supported?

Every model that has a chatter (mail.thread mixin): Contacts, CRM Leads, Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, Invoices, Helpdesk Tickets, Employees, Projects, Tasks, Manufacturing Orders, and any custom model with a chatter.

Can I limit which users can use AI?

Yes. Set a Daily Limit per User (e.g. 20 calls/day) in Settings to control costs. You can also restrict which models show the AI button using the Allowed Models setting and per-model rules.

Does it work on Odoo Enterprise?

Yes. The module works on both Odoo 17 Community and Enterprise editions.
