Live Working Demo

POS Expiration Working Demo

This animated demo shows the complete workflow: product selection, automatic expiration detection, lot selection guidance, and prevention of billing expired stock inside the POS interface.

Why This Module?

In standard Odoo 17 POS, the cashier cannot easily view a product’s lot expiration while billing. This module displays batch and expiry information inside POS during product selection.

Expiry visible at billing time

Shows lot expiry status directly on the POS screen while selecting products — the cashier does not need to open the Inventory module.

Avoids expired batch selection

Helps the cashier choose a valid lot and prevents selling expired stock by validating lots in real time.

  • Shows lot/batch expiry status directly in Odoo 17 POS
  • Works during product selection and lot assignment
  • No need to open the Inventory module for verification

Key Features

Lot Loading

Loads all available lots automatically when the POS session starts.

Lot & Serial Support

Works with both lot numbers and unique serial number tracking.

Expiry Detection

Reads expiration date and calculates remaining days automatically.

Expiry Status

Identifies expired, near expiry, warning and safe stock automatically.

POS Expiry Badge

Shows expiry badge and remaining days directly on product cards.

Direct POS Usage

No need to open the Inventory module while billing.

How It Works

1
POS Session Starts

On session start, the module prepares locations and reads tracked lots for expiry calculation.

2
Expiry Detection

It calculates remaining days from lot expiration date and assigns status (good/warning/expired).

3
POS Badge & Alerts

Cashier sees expiry badge on product card and warnings during lot selection.

Setup Guide

Follow these step-by-step screenshots to configure lots, expiration dates, and view expiry alerts inside POS.

Step 1
Step 1 — Enable Lots & Expiration Dates (Inventory Settings)
Go to Inventory → Configuration → Settings and enable Lots & Serial Numbers and Expiration Dates. Also enable Storage Locations, then click Save.
Step 2
Step 2 — Enable Real-Time Stock Update for POS
Go to Point of Sale → Settings → Inventory section and set Inventory Management = In real time (accurate but slower). Then click Save.
Step 3
Step 3 — Set Product as Storable Product
Open Inventory → Products → Products and select your product. In the General Information tab, set Product Type = Storable Product and save. This is required because expiry tracking only works for stock-managed products.
Step 4
Step 4 — Make Product Available in POS
Go to the Sales tab of the product. Enable Available in POS and save.
Step 5
Step 5 — Enable Lot Tracking & Expiration Date
Open the Inventory tab of the product. Set Tracking = By Lots and enable Expiration Date, then save the product. Now Odoo will track each batch separately and store expiry information.
Step 6
Step 6 — Create a Receipt (Incoming Stock)
Go to Inventory → Operations → Receipts and click New. Choose the vendor and add the product with the received quantity. This step is needed to bring stock into inventory before assigning lots.
Step 7
Step 7 — Assign Lot / Batch Number
Open the created receipt and click Detailed Operations. Enter a Lot/Batch number for the product and confirm the quantity. This creates a unique batch so Odoo can track expiry per lot.
Step 8
Step 8 — Validate Receipt
After entering the lot details, click Validate. The stock will be added to your warehouse with its batch information. Now the system can store and monitor expiration dates for the product.
Step 9
Step 9 — Check Created Lot / Serial Number
Go to Inventory → Products → Lots/Serial Numbers. Here you can see the created batch with its expiration date and quantity. This confirms the product is properly tracked by lot.
Step 10
Step 10 — View/Edit Lot Expiration Details
Open the lot record to view the Expiration Date information. You can verify the expiry date assigned to the batch. POS will use this data to show expiry alerts.
Step 11
Step 11 — Start POS Session
Go to Point of Sale → Dashboard and click New Session. This opens the POS screen where products can be sold. The POS will now load product stock and lot information.
Step 12
Step 12 — Check Product Expiry in POS
On the POS product screen, select the tracked product. You will see an expiry badge (e.g., “Exp in 7 days”) on the product card.
