Customer-Specific Product Codes
Assign a dedicated product code and product name for each customer-product combination directly from the product form. This creates a reliable mapping between your internal catalog and your customers' own reference systems. Each code is unique per customer per company, preventing duplication and ensuring data integrity across all your sales operations.
Auto-Populated Order Line Descriptions
When a product is added to a sale order, the system automatically detects whether a customer code exists for the selected partner and seamlessly replaces the default product code prefix in the order line description. Your customers will see their own familiar product references on every quotation and order, improving communication and reducing confusion between your catalog and theirs.
Search Products by Customer Code
Find products in sale order lines using the customer's own product code or product name. When a partner is selected on a sale order, the product field search is automatically extended to match against customer codes and names in addition to your standard product references. This allows your sales team to quickly locate products using the terminology customers are most familiar with, speeding up order entry and reducing errors.
Product Template & Variant Support
Customer codes work seamlessly with both product templates and product variants. For single-variant products, codes are accessible and editable directly from the product template form, making management straightforward. For multi-variant products, codes are managed at the variant level for precise control. Unique SQL constraints ensure no duplicate customer codes exist within the same company, maintaining clean and reliable data across your entire product catalog.

Quick Start Guide
Install the Module:
- Navigate to Apps in Odoo main menu
- Search for "Rooteam Customer Reference" or "Customer Product Reference"
- Click the "Install" button to activate the module
- The module works out-of-the-box with zero configuration required
Add Customer Codes to a Product:
- Navigate to Inventory → Products or Sales → Products
- Open any product and go to the "Sales" tab
- Find the "Customer Codes" section and click "Add a line"
- Select the customer (partner) and enter their product code and name
- Save the product â the code is now linked to that customer
Create a Sale Order for the Customer:
- Navigate to Sales → Orders → Quotations or Orders
- Create a new quotation and select the customer with configured codes
- Add a product that has a customer code set for this customer
- Observe the order line description â it now shows the customer's product code
- The customer code automatically replaces the default internal product code
Search Products by Customer Code:
- On a sale order with a customer selected, click into the product field on an order line
- Type the customer's product code or customer product name in the search field
- The system searches both your internal catalog and the customer's codes simultaneously
- Select the matching product from the search results
- The order line is populated with the correct product and customer code automatically
Manage Codes for Product Variants:
- Navigate to the product variant directly (Inventory → Products → open product → Variants)
- Open a specific variant to manage its customer codes independently
- For single-variant products, codes are also editable from the product template form
- Assign different customer codes to different variants of the same product if needed
- All codes are enforced as unique per customer per company
Review and Update Customer Codes:
- Access customer codes anytime from the product form under the "Sales" tab
- Update existing codes when customers change their internal references
- Remove outdated codes for customers that are no longer active
- Add new customer codes for newly onboarded customers at any time
- Changes take effect immediately on new sale order lines
FAQs
What is a customer product code and how is it different from an internal reference?
An internal reference is your company's own product code stored on the product itself. A customer product code is the reference that a specific customer uses to identify that same product in their own system. This module lets you store and use the customer's code alongside yours, so quotations and orders sent to that customer display the reference they recognise rather than your internal one.
Can multiple customers have different codes for the same product?
Yes! Each product-customer combination can have its own unique code and name. Customer A may call your product "CUST-A-001" while Customer B uses "REF-B-XYZ" â both are stored independently and applied automatically when the corresponding customer is selected on a sale order.
Does the customer code override or modify the product's internal reference?
No. The customer code only affects the sale order line description â it replaces the default code prefix shown in the line's name field for that specific order. The product's internal reference remains completely unchanged. If no customer code is set for the selected partner, the standard behaviour and description apply as normal.
Is this module compatible with product variants?
Yes! Customer codes are stored at the product variant level, giving you precise control over multi-variant products. For products with a single variant, codes are also conveniently accessible from the product template form. You can assign different customer codes to each variant independently, and all codes are enforced as unique per customer per company to ensure data integrity.
