Standard Odoo Accounting -- What's Missing
- No live currency rate display on journal entries
- No one-click refresh to update the rate to invoice date
- Accountants must manually look up exchange rates
- No access control to restrict multi-currency features
- Currency rate not visible at a glance on the entry form
- Error-prone manual rate entry with no date-based refresh
What This Module Solves
- Live currency rate shown directly on journal entry form
- One-click refresh to update rate to the invoice date
- Displays both forward and inverse exchange rates
- Dedicated security group for Multi Currencies access
- Fully integrated with Odoo Accounting journal entries
- Accurate and instant rate updates without manual lookup
In standard Odoo Accounting, when accountants create journal entries involving foreign currencies, there is no built-in way to see the current exchange rate directly on the entry form. Users are required to manually look up the rate and enter it, which is time-consuming and prone to error.
Account Currency Rate solves this by displaying the live exchange rate — both the forward rate (e.g. 1 USD = 4.512534 AED) and the inverse rate (e.g. 1 AED = 0.221605 USD) — directly on the journal entry form beside the selected journal currency.
A dedicated Refresh button is available on the form, allowing accountants to instantly update the currency rate to match the invoice or accounting date. Clicking the button opens a date picker so the user can select the exact date for which the rate should be fetched.
The module also introduces a dedicated Multi Currencies security group under Extra Rights, allowing administrators to control which users have access to the multi-currency features within Odoo Accounting.
This module is ideal for any business operating with multiple currencies — including importers, exporters, multinational companies, and firms working with clients or vendors in different countries.

Settings → Groups → Extra Rights / Multi Currencies → Add Users
Live Currency Rate Displayed on Journal Entry
Open or create a journal entry in Accounting → Journal Entries. When a foreign currency journal is selected, the current exchange rate is displayed automatically — both the forward rate (e.g. 1 USD = 4.512534 AED) and the inverse rate (e.g. 1 AED = 0.221605 USD) are shown directly on the form.
Journal Entry → Live exchange rate shown beside the journal currency
Refresh Currency Rate by Invoice Date
Click the Refresh icon button on the journal entry form. A tooltip reads "Refresh currency rate to the invoice date". A date picker appears — select the desired date and the exchange rate updates instantly to match the rate for that date.
Refresh button → Date picker → Rate updates to selected date
Select Date from Date Picker
After clicking the Refresh button, a date picker calendar appears on the journal entry form. Select the specific invoice or accounting date for which you want to fetch the exchange rate. The rate will be updated to match the rate recorded for that selected date.
Date picker → Select invoice date → Rate refreshes to that date
Post Journal Entry with Accurate Rate
Once the rate is verified or refreshed, click Post to confirm the journal entry. The entry is posted with the correct exchange rate applied, and the currency rate remains visible on the posted entry for reference.
