Sales Team Customer Restrictions

Automatically restrict customers, sales orders, and leads to their assigned sales teams – perfect for multi team B2B environments



Key Features

How It Works
  • Customers A salesperson can only see customers that belong to any of their sales teams. The restriction is only applied when searching in customer mode.
  • Sales Orders Salespeople see only orders where the team is one of their teams.
  • CRM Leads Salespeople see only leads assigned to their teams.

When a user is a Sales Manager all restrictions are bypassed, giving them full visibility.

Additionally, the module adds a Customers tab to each Sales Team form, showing all customers linked to that team. This allows managers to easily see which customers belong to which team.

In forms (Sale Order, CRM Lead), the customer selection field is dynamically filtered to show only customers belonging to the user’s teams.

Installation & Configuration Guide

Step 1: Install the Module

  1. Copy the module folder to your Odoo addons directory.
  2. Update the apps list (Apps → Update Apps List).
  3. Search for “Sales Team Data Isolation” and click Install.

Step 2: Assign Customers to Sales Teams

  1. Go to Sales → Configuration → Sales Teams.
  2. Open a sales team and go to the new “Customers” tab.
  3. Click Add and select customers that belong to this team.
  4. Repeat for each sales team.

Step 3: Ensure User Membership

  1. Each sales team already has a Team Leader and Members (from the “Members” tab).
  2. Salespeople will see only customers assigned to teams where they are either leader or member.
  3. Sales Managers (group Sales / Manager) see all records regardless.

Note: No further configuration is needed. The restrictions apply automatically to all list views, kanban, pivot, graph, and search panels.

Use Cases

Multi Brand Companies

Each sales team handles a different brand. Salespeople only see customers of their brand, preventing cross team confusion.

Regional Sales Teams

North America team sees only NA customers; EMEA team sees only EMEA customers. No accidental cross territory sales.

Data Privacy Compliance

Enforce strict data segregation to meet GDPR or other privacy requirements – sales reps only access their assigned customers.

Sales Performance Tracking

Managers can easily see team specific pipelines and orders without manually filtering by team.

Channel Partner Management

Each channel partner (distributor) has a dedicated sales team. Partners’ customers are only visible to that team.

Ecommerce B2B Portals

If salespeople use the backend to create orders for their customers, this module ensures they only see their own customers.

FAQ

Q: How does the module know which customers belong to a sales team?

A: You manually assign customers to teams via the new “Customers” tab on the Sales Team form. This gives you full control.

Q: Can a customer be assigned to multiple sales teams?

A: Yes, the many2many field allows a customer to belong to several teams. In that case, members of any of those teams will see the customer.

Q: Does this affect the website/ecommerce customer login?

A: No, the restrictions only apply to backend (internal) users. Website portal users are not affected.

Q: What if a salesperson creates a new customer? Does it auto assign to their team?

A: The module does not auto assign. You must manually assign customers to teams. This gives managers control over which customers belong to which team.

Q: Does it work with “My Customers” filter?

A: Yes, the domain restrictions are applied after the user’s own filters, so “My Customers” will be further restricted to team customers.

Q: Can a sales manager see all customers even if not assigned to a team?

A: Yes, the manager group bypasses all restrictions. Managers see all customers, orders, and leads regardless of team assignment.

Q: Does this module conflict with other security rules (e.g., record rules)?

A: It works alongside standard Odoo record rules. The domain filters are additive – they restrict further but do not remove existing restrictions.
