Know what you actually paid before you approve the next order

Product Purchase & Cost Price History turns scattered purchase orders into a browsable price trail per product — vendor comparison, trend graphs, and variance alerts included.

THE PROBLEM

Odoo keeps the current cost and vendor pricelist, but not what you actually paid on past purchase orders, how that price moved over time, or which vendor gave the best rate last quarter. Procurement teams end up filtering the Purchase Orders list and reading line by line every time they need that context.

THE SOLUTION

Every confirmed purchase, standard cost change, and confirmed sale is captured automatically into a per-product price history, with a trend graph, a vendor comparison matrix, and variance alerts — so the numbers you need for the next negotiation are already on the product form.

CAPABILITIES

Everything a buyer needs to judge a price

Every capability below is implemented in the module.

01

Automatic purchase price capture

Every confirmed purchase order line is recorded into the price history automatically, with vendor, quantity, and total — no manual entry.

02

Standard cost tracking

Every change to a product's standard cost is captured as its own history row, so cost drift over time is always visible.

03

Sale price history

Confirming a sales order records the sale price alongside purchase and cost history, for full-picture margin context on every product.

04

Vendor comparison matrix

A pivot view groups history by vendor and price type, showing at a glance who has historically charged the most or least for a product.

05

Price trend graph

A line chart plots unit price over time by price type, revealing seasonal and long-term movement without opening a spreadsheet.

06

Price-variance alerts

Each purchase or sale price is compared to the historical average for that product and flagged in red when it deviates beyond a configurable threshold.

07

Auto-fill last purchase price

Adding a product to a new purchase order line pre-fills an empty price field with the last recorded purchase price, with an on/off switch in Settings.

08

Last-price context on order lines

Purchase order lines show the last recorded price and sale order lines show the last purchase cost, right on the order form, for margin awareness while quoting.

09

Product smart button with stats

Every product gets a Price History smart button plus last/average purchase price, variance percentage, and last sale price, with a badge when the latest price is out of range.

WORKFLOW

How it works

1

Confirm orders as usual

Approve purchase orders and confirm sales orders the normal Odoo way — no new screens to learn.

2

History captured automatically

Each confirmed line is recorded, and cost changes are captured the moment standard cost is edited.

3

Compare and analyze

Open Price History and switch between graph, pivot, and list views to compare vendors and spot flagged variances.

4

Act at the point of order

Quote or reorder with the last price and variance visible right on the purchase and sale order lines.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

Does this module require Odoo Enterprise?

No. It depends only on the Community Purchase and Sales apps, so it installs and runs entirely on Odoo Community.

Will old price history slow down my database?

History rows are never deleted automatically. The retention limit only controls how many rows are shown from the product smart button, so nothing is lost.

How is a price flagged as a variance?

Each price is compared to the average of that product's other prices of the same type; if it deviates by at least the configurable threshold (15 percent by default) it is marked with a variance indicator.

Does it change the price on my purchase or sale orders?

No. Existing pricelist and cost logic is untouched. It only pre-fills an empty purchase order line price from the last recorded price, which can be turned off in Settings, and shows read-only reference columns.
