Alternative Components Tab On The Bill Of Materials

A new Alternative Components tab is added to the bill of materials. It starts empty, and the note underneath explains that you pick a component line and then edit its substitutes.

Manage Alternatives From A Component Line

In the Components tab each component line gets a Manage Alternatives link, so you can set up substitutes for that specific material without leaving the bill of materials.

Components Listed Ready For Substitutes

The Alternative Components tab lists the components with their quantity and a Manage Alternatives button beside each one, giving you one place to see what can be substituted.

Add Substitutes With Quantity And Extra Cost

The dialog for a component line holds the list of approved substitutes. For each one you set the alternative product, the quantity it needs, and any extra cost to expect when it is used.

Create The Manufacturing Order

Create the order for the product whose bill of materials carries the substitutes, and its components are pulled in as usual. Here the order is still in draft, ready to confirm.

Substitute From The Confirmed Order

With the order confirmed, the Select Alternative Components button in the header opens the substitution form. The components tab still shows the original material at this point.

Pick The Replacement Component

The form lists each original component that has substitutes alongside a dropdown limited to the approved choices. Selecting one fills in its quantity and extra cost, then Confirm applies the change.

Order Updated With The Replacement

The replacement now sits in the components list at its own quantity while the original line stays visible at zero. The message history records the old and new product, both quantities, the extra cost, the cost difference, and who made the change.

Cost Impact And Replacement History

The Alternative Costs tab totals the extra cost and the full cost effect of the substitution, worked out from the original and replacement material values plus the extra cost you defined, with a dated history of every replacement on the order.
