Overview
The Odoo 18 Nested Packaging module enhances Odoo 18’s product packaging capabilities by introducing hierarchical (nested) packaging, sale order improvements, detailed quotation reports, and a packaging wizard for bulk creation. It simplifies managing complex units of measure (e.g., units, boxes, packs, cartons) for sales and inventory.
Installation
- Download: Purchase or download the module from the Odoo Apps Store or https://expertpk.com.
- Install: In Odoo, go to Apps, click Update Apps List, then install the module by uploading the ZIP file or searching for "Odoo 18 Nested Packaging."
- Dependencies: Requires the sale module (automatically installed).
- Configuration: No additional setup required; features are available post-installation.
Usage
### 1. Create Nested Packagings - Navigate to Inventory > Configuration > Product Packagings or Products > Product Variants. - To create packagings for a product:
Open a product template, click Generate Packaging (button in the form header).
In the wizard: - Enter up to four packaging levels (e.g., Box, Pack, Carton). - Specify names (e.g., "Box") and quantities (e.g., 12 for 12 bottles). - Example:
- Level 1: Name = "Box," Qty = 12 (bottles, no child pack).
- Level 2: Name = "Pack," Qty = 4 (Boxes, child = Box).
- Level 3: Name = "Carton," Qty = 3 (Packs, child = Pack).
- Click Create to generate packagings for all variants or the single product.
- Packagings are created with hierarchical relationships (e.g., Carton contains 3 Packs, each Pack contains 4 Boxes, each Box contains 12 bottles, totaling 144 bottles).
### 2. Use in Sale Orders - In Sales > Orders, create a new sale order. - Add a product line, select the Packaging (e.g., Carton) from the dropdown. - Enter the Pack Qty (e.g., 1 for 1 Carton). - The module auto-calculates the Unit Qty (e.g., 144 bottles for 1 Carton). - View the Breakdown (e.g., "1 × Carton ➜ 3 × Pack ➜ 12 × Box ➜ 144 Unit") in the sale order line.
### 3. Quotation Reports - When printing or previewing a quotation (Sales > Orders > Print):
- If any line uses packaging, additional columns appear: - Breakdown: Shows the packaging hierarchy (e.g., "1 × Carton ➜ 3 × Pack ➜ 12 × Box ➜ 144 Unit"). - Pack: Displays the selected pack name (e.g., "Carton"). - Pack Qty: Shows the pack quantity (e.g., 1). - Pack Price: Shows the price per pack (e.g., unit price × 144 for 1 Carton).
- The "Quantity" column is renamed to Unit Qty for clarity.
### 4. Manage Packagings - In Inventory > Configuration > Product Packagings, view or edit packagings. - Fields include:
- Parent Packaging: The child pack (e.g., Pack for Carton).
- Qty of Child Packages: Number of child packs (e.g., 3 Packs in 1 Carton).
- Qty: Total base units (e.g., 144 bottles for 1 Carton).
Example
Product: Soda Bottles - Base Unit: 1 bottle. - Packagings:
- Box: 12 bottles (no child).
- Pack: 4 Boxes (child = Box, 48 bottles).
- Carton: 3 Packs (child = Pack, 144 bottles).
- Sale Order: - Add "Soda Bottles," select "Carton," set Pack Qty = 1. - Unit Qty auto-updates to 144 bottles. - Breakdown: "1 × Carton ➜ 3 × Pack ➜ 12 × Box ➜ 144 Unit."

It solved product packing issue. good one.
Overall, this app solved a lot of issues. I really appreciate the author.
This module has effectively addressed the challenges we faced with boxes, cartons, and packs in our company. As a snack manufacturing industry, managing multiple units of measurement (UOM) for various packaging types was quite difficult. However, this module has allowed us to create child packings, which serve as an excellent alternative to traditional UOM. We can now easily manage packaging configurations such as 12 boxes equaling 1 pack and 2 packs equaling 1 carton. Thank you very much to the author for this valuable solution!
