How It Works
Six simple steps to a GDPR-safe database
Generate Your Key
Use the key generation wizard to create a secure AES encryption key. Download and store it safely — it is the only way to decrypt your data.
Select
Use the DB-Viewer or manually select the fields containing personal data. Export the field configuration to reuse it later and to simplify the decryption step after the upgrade.
Encrypt
Run the encryption wizard, allow the failsafe db backup creation â all values are encrypted in place within seconds. You can see the encrypted fields in the db viewer.
Submit
Hand over the encrypted database to the Odoo Upgrade Service, follow Odoo's upgrade instructions, and import the upgraded database back into your system.
Import or Scan
Download App Version 19 from Odoo-Store and import your previously exported field configuration or use the built-in scanner to find moved fields in the Decryption Wizard to automatically detect the encrypted fields.
Decrypt
Run the decryption wizard â all values are decrypted in place within seconds. You can see the decrypted fields in the db viewer. Enjoy your upgraded system without breaking GDPR.

PrivacyShield encrypts selected fields as a technical safeguard before an Odoo upgrade. It does not guarantee GDPR compliance, anonymisation, upgrade success, or that all personal data is protected. Encrypted or pseudonymised data may still be personal data under GDPR if re-identification is possible.
Users are responsible for choosing the correct fields and records to protect. Personal data may remain in unselected fields, computed fields, chatter, emails, attachments, logs, backups, custom modules, or metadata.
Always test on a database copy, keep a complete backup, store the encryption key securely, and maintain appropriate GDPR documentation, processor agreements, retention/deletion procedures, and access controls.
