Multi-File Upload Widget | Multiple File Attachments | Generic Attachment System
This module allows Odoo users to upload multiple documents from different sources like Drag and Drop, Local Devices, Screen Capture, Webcam and Audio to any model using a single One2many field.
Installation
- Copy the module multi_binary_dropzone_widget to addons folder
- Install the module normally like other modules
- Add the One2many field to any model you want
Features
- Multiple File Upload - Upload unlimited files to a single field
- Drag & Drop - Drag files directly onto the widget
- Screen Capture - Capture screenshots directly from browser
- Webcam Support - Take photos using your webcam
- Audio Recording - Record audio files
- Works with Any Model - Use on sale.order, project.task, res.partner, or any custom model
- Individual File Management - Download or delete files individually
- File Metadata - Automatic tracking of upload date, user, and file size
Step 1: Add One2many Field in Python Model
Add a computed One2many field to your model that references the generic.attachment model. This single field handles all file uploads automatically.
from odoo import models, fields, api
class SaleOrder(models.Model):
_inherit = 'sale.order'
# Add this single One2many field with compute and inverse
generic_attachment_ids = fields.One2many(
'generic.attachment',
compute='_compute_generic_attachments',
inverse='_inverse_generic_attachments',
string='Attachments'
)
@api.depends()
def _compute_generic_attachments(self):
"""Fetch attachments linked to this record"""
for record in self:
attachments = self.env['generic.attachment'].search([
('res_model', '=', self._name),
('res_id', '=', record.id)
])
record.generic_attachment_ids = attachments
def _inverse_generic_attachments(self):
"""Handle writes from the widget (actual creation is done via RPC)"""
pass # Widget handles file creation via RPC calls
compute and inverse methods are required:
- _compute_generic_attachments: Fetches and displays existing attachments
- _inverse_generic_attachments: Required for computed fields that can be written to (can be empty as widget handles creation via RPC)
Step 2: Add Widget to XML View
Use the multi_binary_dropzone widget on your One2many field in the form view. The widget automatically handles file uploads, downloads, and deletions.
Step 2: Add Widget to XML View
Use the multi_binary_dropzone widget on your One2many field in the form view. The widget automatically handles file uploads, downloads, and deletions.
<record id="view_order_form_inherit" model="ir.ui.view">
<field name="name">sale.order.form.inherit</field>
<field name="model">sale.order</field>
<field name="inherit_id" ref="sale.view_order_form"/>
<field name="arch" type="xml">
<xpath expr="//notebook" position="inside">
<page string="Attachments" name="attachments">
<!-- Use the multi_binary_dropzone widget -->
<field name="generic_attachment_ids"
widget="multi_binary_dropzone"/>
</page>
</xpath>
</field>
</record>
Complete Example - Any Model
This widget works with ANY Odoo model. Here's a complete example for a custom model:
Python Model (models/project_task.py):
from odoo import models, fields, api
class ProjectTask(models.Model):
_inherit = 'project.task'
generic_attachment_ids = fields.One2many(
'generic.attachment',
compute='_compute_generic_attachments',
inverse='_inverse_generic_attachments',
string='Task Attachments'
)
@api.depends()
def _compute_generic_attachments(self):
"""Fetch attachments linked to this record"""
for record in self:
attachments = self.env['generic.attachment'].search([
('res_model', '=', self._name),
('res_id', '=', record.id)
])
record.generic_attachment_ids = attachments
def _inverse_generic_attachments(self):
"""Handle writes from the widget (actual creation is done via RPC)"""
pass # Widget handles file creation via RPC calls
XML View (views/project_task_views.xml):
<record id="view_task_form_inherit" model="ir.ui.view">
<field name="name">project.task.form.inherit</field>
<field name="model">project.task</field>
<field name="inherit_id" ref="project.view_task_form2"/>
<field name="arch" type="xml">
<xpath expr="//notebook" position="inside">
<page string="Documents">
<field name="generic_attachment_ids"
widget="multi_binary_dropzone"/>
</page>
</xpath>
</field>
</record>
