Problem:

  • Manual daily backups after closing POS sessions.
  • Risk of human error or missed backups.
  • Staff time wasted on repetitive, non-revenue-generating tasks.
  • No reliable, automated remote storage (e.g., cloud backups).
  • No automatic cleanup of old backups, causing disk space issues.

Solution:

We implemented our Odoo Auto Backup App, which:

  • Automatically creates backups after session closed and at scheduled intervals.
  • Integrates with Google Drive via the Google Drive desktop app.
  • Backups are saved directly into a mapped folder, which syncs with Google Drive—offering both local and cloud copies.
  • Old backups are automatically deleted after 7 days (configurable).
  • Entire process runs in the background with zero human interaction required.

good for smaller database sizes

This would be good until the database grows to an unmanagable size when the application itself might be unable to do the auto backup due to timeout or size that application server can not handle using its allocated system resource. once someone reaches to that level, better to move to whole instance back up mechanism that cloud servers provide.
