User guide â HEIC Attachment Convert
Follow these steps to install, configure dependency, and validate automatic HEIC/HEIF conversion to PNG in Odoo 18.
1. Install dependency and module
- Go to Apps, remove the Apps filter, search HEIC Attachment Convert, and click Install (or Activate).
- Install Python package pillow_heif on the Odoo server, then restart Odoo service.
- No extra menu setup is required. The module works directly on attachment/image uploads.
2. Upload HEIC/HEIF image
- Open any form with an image upload widget (for example product, employee, or attachment upload).
- Select a .heic or .heif image file.
- Save the record as usual.
3. Verify converted output
- Open the saved record or attachment.
- Confirm the image is stored as PNG.
- Confirm the filename extension is updated to .png.
4. Check attachment behavior
- The module handles both binary payload styles: datas and raw.
- HEIF-like files are detected via extension, mimetype, or file signature fallback.
- Converted attachments are written with mimetype = image/png.
5. Optional frontend check
- Use web client image widget upload to test the JS patch flow.
- The frontend calls server method and receives converted PNG data.
