Automatic CO2e per delivery

Every outgoing delivery is scored the moment it is validated — weight × distance × emission factor — with a manual recompute button always at hand.

Completely offline. No Climatiq, no geocoding, no external Python packages — everything ships inside the module and runs on a bare Community database.

Editable emission factors

Seven transport modes (bicycle to air freight) ship as editable averages in kg CO2e per tonne-km. Tune them to your fleet — your edits survive upgrades.

Footprint on the delivery slip

A single clean line on the printed delivery slip — "Estimated shipping footprint: X.XX kg CO2e (mode, N km)" — that renders correctly in RTL and never prints a misleading zero.

Customer portal badge

A small green footprint badge appears on the customer's portal sale order — the same figure they see printed — and degrades gracefully to nothing when there is no footprint.

Emissions Analysis report

A dedicated Inventory → Reporting view with list, pivot and graph — total kg CO2e grouped by month, shipping method, transport mode and customer.

Per-carrier & per-customer setup

Set a transport mode, an optional factor override and a default distance on each shipping method — plus a reusable delivery distance entered once per customer.

Mass recompute wizard

Backfill footprints on historical deliveries across any date range. Processed in batches so even large databases update without timing out.

Multi-company, RTL & translatable

Multi-company safe and fully translatable, and every surface — including the printed delivery slip — renders correctly right-to-left.

User guide

Install the module, tell it how your goods travel, and every validated delivery gets a transparent CO2e estimate — on screen, on the slip and in the portal — with no code and no external services.

1. Install the module

  1. Open Apps, remove the Apps filter, search Carbon Emissions Per Shipping Method and click Install.
  2. Seven editable emission factors and the Carbon tab, report and wizard appear immediately.

2. Review your emission factors

  1. Go to Inventory → Configuration → Emission Factors.
  2. Adjust any factor (kg CO2e per tonne-km) to match your fleet. Your edits survive module upgrades.

3. Configure carriers & customers

  • On each Shipping Method, open the Carbon Footprint tab and set a transport mode, an optional factor override and a default distance.
  • On each Customer, set the one-way Delivery Distance (km) once — it is reused for every delivery.

4. Deliver & report

  • Validate a delivery — its footprint is computed automatically and shown on the form, the printed slip and the customer portal.
  • Open Inventory → Reporting → Emissions Analysis for list, pivot and graph views.
  • Use Recompute Footprints to backfill historical deliveries after editing your factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does this need any external API or subscription?
No. There are no API keys, no geocoding and no external Python packages. Emission factors ship as editable data records and distances come from stored fields, so it runs fully offline on Community.
2. Which Odoo versions are supported?
Odoo 17, 18 and 19 — Community and Enterprise. It depends only on Inventory, Delivery, Sales and Portal, all standard Odoo apps.
3. How is the footprint calculated?
CO2e (kg) = weight (tonnes) × distance (km) × emission factor (kg CO2e per tonne-km). Weight comes from the delivered goods, distance from the customer or carrier, and the factor from the shipping method's transport mode.
4. Where do the emission factors come from?
They are editable averages in the magnitude of public freight-emission sources (DEFRA / EPA / IPCC). They are transparent estimates for guidance only and carry no certification claim.
5. Can I edit the factors, and do my edits survive upgrades?
Yes. Edit any factor from Inventory → Configuration → Emission Factors. They ship as non-updating data, so your customised values are preserved when the module is upgraded.
6. What happens when weight, distance or transport mode is missing?
The delivery is flagged as an incomplete estimate with a clear reason, and no misleading zero is printed on the slip or shown in the portal. Nothing crashes — it degrades gracefully.
7. Is it translatable and does it support right-to-left (RTL)?
Yes. The module ships an up-to-date translation template (.pot) so it can be translated into any language, and every surface — including the printed delivery slip line — renders correctly in RTL.
