What is Payment Reminders all about?

Payment Reminders is a feature that helps businesses ensure timely collection of payments by automatically sending reminder emails to customers based on their invoice due dates in Odoo.

Administrators can configure reminders to be sent either before or after the due date by specifying the number of days. Each reminder is linked to an email template that is automatically selected based on the reminder type.

A scheduled action runs daily to check all posted, unpaid invoices and triggers the appropriate reminder email to the respective customer when their invoice due date matches the configured reminder rule.

Go to Settings → Invoicing → Customer Payments Reminder and check the "Enable Payment Reminder" checkbox to activate the feature. You can then click "Configure Payment Reminder" to define the reminder rules, days, and email templates as per your business needs.
Enable Payment Reminder
Configure each reminder by selecting Before Due Date or After Due Date, entering the number of Days, and choosing the appropriate Mail Template. As shown above, setting 5 days with "Before Due Date" will automatically send the reminder email to all customers whose invoice due date is 5 days away.

the reminder email is triggered automatically and sent directly to the customer's email address. The email clearly mentions the invoice number, amount due, and payment due date, along with a friendly note that the due date is approaching in 5 days — keeping the customer well-informed without any manual effort.

To follow up on overdue invoices, select "After Due Date" as the Reminder Selection and set the Days value accordingly. As seen in PayRem/002, a reminder set to 5 days after due date will trigger an automated email to all customers whose payment deadline has passed but the invoice remains unpaid.

The after-due-date reminder email is automatically triggered once the configured days have elapsed past the invoice due date. As seen below, the customer receives an email with the invoice number, outstanding amount, and a clear message that their payment deadline has already passed — ensuring timely follow-up without any manual intervention.

Setting the Days value to 0 triggers the reminder email on the exact due date, regardless of whether Before or After Due Date is selected. This is useful when you want to send a last-minute notification to customers whose invoice payment is due today.

When Days is set to 0, the customer receives a reminder email on the due date itself, with the subject "Notification: 0 days remaining for due date." The email includes the invoice number, amount due, and a direct message that payment is due today — ensuring the customer is notified at the right moment.

Every reminder email sent to a customer is automatically logged under the Payment Reminders History tab on the customer form. This history records the invoice number, mail date, due date, and email template used — making it easy to track all payment reminder communications for each customer at a glance.
