Default Product Combo Quantity

Usage

How to get started

This module allows you to define specific quantities for each item within a product combo. Follow these two main steps to get started:

  1. Configure Your Combo Product:
Navigate to the Products menu. On a product form, go to the Combo tab and add your component items. Use the new Quantity field to define how many of each item are included in one set.
e.g., A "Gaming PC Kit" can be set to include 2 RAM sticks and 3 case fans.
  2. Add to a Sales Order:
Create a new Quotation and add the main combo product to an order line. The component items will be automatically added as separate lines below, with their final quantities calculated for you.
e.g., Ordering 5 "Gaming PC Kits" will automatically add 10 RAM sticks (5 × 2) and 15 case fans (5 × 3) to the order.

Product Combo Quantity Module: User Guide

Stable License: OPL-1

1. Module Introduction

This module enhances Odoo’s Product Combo feature, allowing you to set a specific quantity for each component item within a product set.

When you add the main combo product to a sales order, the system automatically adds the component items as individual lines, calculating the final quantity for each. This simplifies the process of creating complex orders.

2. Key Features

  • Customizable Quantity per Combo Item: Define a base quantity for each item within the combo setup (e.g., a “Meal Set” includes 2 servings of fries and 1 drink).
  • Automatic Quantity Calculation: On sales orders, the final quantity of a component is calculated as: (Main Combo Product Quantity) × (Component Item's Set Quantity).
  • Smart Pre-selection: In the configurator window, if a choice is the only available option and is not configurable, it will be automatically pre-selected to speed up the process.

3. Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Configure the Product Combo and Item Quantities

  1. Navigate to the Sales or Inventory app and go to the Products menu.
  2. Create or edit a product that will serve as the main “combo product” (e.g., “Deluxe Picnic Basket”).
  3. On the product form, go to the Combo tab.
  4. Add the component items for this combo (e.g., Sandwich, Fruit Salad, Bottled Water).
  5. When adding each component item, you will see a new Quantity field. Enter the base quantity for that item within this combo.
    • Example: For the “Deluxe Picnic Basket”, you can set:
      • Sandwich: Quantity 2
      • Fruit Salad: Quantity 2
      • Bottled Water: Quantity 4

Step 2: Use in a Sales Order

  1. Go to the Sales app and create a new Quotation.
  2. In the order lines, add the main combo product you just configured (e.g., “Deluxe Picnic Basket”) and set its order quantity (e.g., 3).
  3. A configurator window may pop up for you to confirm or modify the combo contents.
  4. After confirming, the system will automatically add the component items (Sandwich, Fruit Salad, Bottled Water) to the sales order as separate lines.
  5. The quantity for each item will be calculated automatically:
    • Sandwich Quantity: 3 (main product qty) × 2 (set qty) = 6
    • Fruit Salad Quantity: 3 (main product qty) × 2 (set qty) = 6
    • Bottled Water Quantity: 3 (main product qty) × 4 (set qty) = 12

4. Example Scenario

Imagine you are a computer vendor selling a “Gaming PC Kit”.

  1. Setup:
    • Main Combo Product: Gaming PC Kit
    • Component Items:
      • High-Performance GPU: Quantity 1
      • 16GB RAM Stick: **Quantity 2` (e.g., to fill two motherboard slots)
      • 1TB SSD: Quantity 1
      • Case Fan: Quantity 3
  2. Sales Process:
    • A customer orders 5 units of the Gaming PC Kit.
    • You add Gaming PC Kit to the sales order with a quantity of 5.
  3. Result:
    • Odoo automatically generates the following order lines:
      • High-Performance GPU: Quantity 5
      • 16GB RAM Stick: Quantity 10 (5 × 2)
      • 1TB SSD: Quantity 5
      • Case Fan: Quantity 15 (5 × 3)

With this module, you no longer need to manually calculate the total for each component, ensuring order accuracy and efficiency.
