Disable Auto Followers | Followers Subscription Management in Odoo

01 When enabled, the module prevents external contacts (customers or vendors) from being automatically subscribed to document threads. This is especially useful in chat services for businesses that wants to maintain internal focus.
02 The app adds a new section under Odoo's general settings titled "Disable/Restrict to add Followers."
Here, you will find:

  • Restrict Followers: A boolean field to globally enable the feature.
  • Disable Followers Model: A model selection field where you can specify document types (e.g., sale.order) to restrict auto-followers.
03 If the restriction is enabled and the document model is selected, followers are suppressed only during auto-creation. Manual additions still work via Odoo's standard interface.
04 Whenever the system blocks an external contact from being auto-subscribed due to the restriction settings, an internal log message is added to the document's chatter (visible only to internal users). This ensures traceability and helps users understand why certain followers are missing without affecting the user experience for external partners.

Set Up

Install the app from the Odoo App Store
Go to Settings >> General Settings
Locate the new section titled: Disable/Restrict to add Followers.
Check the boolean: Restrict Followers
Upon checking, a new field appears: Disable Followers Model
Select models like Sales Order (sale.order) or Purchase Order (purchase.order).

Work Flow

Now, when you create a new Sales Order (for example):

  • The customer selected will not be added as a follower.

  • Only the internal user will be logged, based on contex.
