1. Getting Started

Prerequisites

Before installing, make sure you have the following:

Installation

  1. Upload the module folder to your server's custom addons directory.
  2. Restart the Odoo service to detect the new module.
  3. Navigate to Apps menu, click Update Apps List.
  4. Search for "Telegram Scheduler & Auto-Retry" and click Install.

Note

After installation, the Send Telegram wizard gains a new Scheduling section, and two background cron jobs are activated automatically.


2. Scheduling Messages

The module adds a Send Mode option to the Send Telegram wizard.

Send Now vs Schedule

When you open the Send Telegram wizard from any record's chatter, you will see:

Send Now:(Default) Messages are sent immediately when you click Send.
Schedule:Messages are queued and sent at the specified date and time by a background cron job.

How to Schedule

  1. Open the Send Telegram wizard from any record's chatter.
  2. Select the Schedule option under Send Mode.
  3. A Scheduled Date field appears — pick the date and time.
  4. Fill in recipients, message, attachments as usual.
  5. Click Send — messages are saved with Scheduled status.

Tip

Scheduled messages appear in the Message Logs with status Scheduled and a scheduled date. The cron job checks every 5 minutes for messages that are due.


3. Auto-Retry

The module automatically retries failed Telegram messages using a background cron job.

How It Works

  1. A cron job runs every 15 minutes to find messages with Error status.
  2. For each failed message, the system attempts to resend it.
  3. The retry count is incremented each time.
  4. If the retry count exceeds the max retries setting, the message is left as Error.

Configuration

Navigate to Settings > Telegram to configure:

Enable Auto-Retry:
 Toggle to enable or disable automatic retry of failed messages.
Max Retries:Set the maximum number of retry attempts per message (default: 3).

Warning

If auto-retry is disabled, failed messages will only be retried when you click the Retry button manually from the Message Logs.


4. Background Cron Jobs

This module installs two automated cron jobs:

Cron Job Interval Description
Send Scheduled Messages Every 5 minutes Finds scheduled messages that are due and sends them via the Telegram API.
Retry Failed Messages Every 15 minutes Finds failed messages within the retry limit and attempts to resend them.

Note

Both cron jobs run in the background. No user interaction is needed once configured. You can adjust the intervals from Settings > Technical > Automation > Scheduled Actions.


5. Message Log Enhancements

This module adds a Scheduled Date field to the message log.

Scheduled messages show:

  • Status: Scheduled (before due), Sent (after delivery), Error (if failed)
  • Scheduled Date: The date/time when the message is due to be sent
  • Retry Count: Number of retry attempts (incremented by auto-retry)

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My scheduled message was not sent at the exact time I specified.

A: The cron job runs every 5 minutes. Your message will be sent within 5 minutes of the scheduled time, not at the exact second.

Q: Can I cancel a scheduled message?

A: You can delete the scheduled message log entry before it is sent.

Q: Auto-retry keeps failing for a specific message. What should I do?

A: Check the error details in the message log. Common causes: recipient blocked the bot, invalid chat ID, or network issues. Fix the underlying issue, then retry manually.

Q: How do I disable auto-retry?

A: Go to Settings > Telegram and uncheck Enable Auto-Retry.
