Traceability — Customer / Construction Project
Track material flows per construction site — automatically creates a dedicated storage location for each confirmed sale order.
Developed by 2BIT Digital GmbH — your Swiss Odoo partner for payroll, accounting, eCommerce, manufacturing and custom business solutions.
Overview
Construction and project-based companies need to track exactly which materials are delivered to which construction site and what remains on site at the end of a project. This module extends the standard Odoo sales and inventory flow with full per-project material traceability.
When a sale order is confirmed using the designated construction site warehouse, Odoo automatically creates a dedicated sub-location for that order. All material movements — inbound deliveries, internal transfers, and final returns to stock — are routed through this location. Purchase orders created for the project deliver directly to the construction site location and are linked back to the originating sale order.
Business Impact
Why You Need This Module
Construction companies often manage multiple active sites simultaneously. Without per-site inventory tracking, it is impossible to know exactly what material is on which site, what was used, and what needs to be returned to the warehouse at the end of a project.
Which Problems It Solves
- No per-project inventory visibility for construction sites
- Manual tracking of material deliveries and returns per project
- Purchase orders not linked to the originating sale order or site location
- Difficult end-of-project material reconciliation
Key Benefits For Operations Teams
- Dedicated storage location created automatically per confirmed sale order
- Purchase orders deliver directly to the construction site location
- One-click import of all site materials into an inbound transfer
- One-click termination action to return all remaining site materials to stock
- Full traceability from sale order through delivery to end-of-project return
How It Works
- Set the Default Construction Site Storage warehouse under Inventory → Configuration → Settings.
- Confirm a sale order using that warehouse — Odoo creates a dedicated sub-location automatically named after the order and customer.
- All deliveries and purchase order receipts for that order are routed to the construction site location.
- Use Import Products on inbound transfers to pull in all materials currently at the site.
- Use Terminate Construction on outbound transfers to generate a return-to-stock transfer for all remaining site materials.

Auto-Created Construction Site Location
When a sale order is confirmed, Odoo automatically creates a dedicated storage sub-location for the construction site inside the configured warehouse.
Purchase Order Linked to Construction Site
Purchase orders for construction projects show the linked sale order, delivery address, construction site storage location, and quotation title. Materials are delivered directly to the site location.
