Stock Negative Control
Advanced negative stock control per user, location, and warehouse. Block, warn, or allow negative inventory with full audit logging across all Odoo operations.
Why This Module?
Negative stock is one of the most common and costly inventory problems in Odoo. When stock quantities drop below zero â whether through sales, transfers, manufacturing, POS, or scrap â it leads to inaccurate inventory valuations, misleading reports, and operational confusion.
This module gives you full control over negative stock behavior at every level of your organization. Define policies per location and per warehouse, grant trusted users a bypass permission, and choose between silently blocking an operation or issuing a warning that is recorded in an audit log.
Every negative stock event â whether blocked or warned â is captured in a detailed log with product, location, user, date, quantity, and operation type, giving your inventory managers complete visibility and accountability.

1. Assign the Negative Stock Security Group to Users
Control who can manage negative stock policies by assigning the dedicated security group to specific users. Only users with the Negative Stock Manager group can view and edit location, warehouse, and user policies, keeping configuration access restricted to authorized staff.
2. Enable Negative Stock Control from Configuration Settings
Activate negative stock control company-wide with a single toggle in the Inventory Configuration settings. When enabled, the module begins enforcing policies across all stock operations. When disabled, all validations pass through normally without any interference.
3. Set Warehouse Policy to Warning
Configure the negative stock policy at the warehouse level. Setting the warehouse policy to Warning means any outgoing stock operation that would result in negative inventory is allowed to proceed but is automatically recorded in the audit log for review.
4. Validate a Delivery for a Product with No Available Stock
With the Warning policy active, a user attempts to validate a delivery for a product that has zero or insufficient stock. The operation is processed but the negative stock event is silently captured in the log, giving managers full visibility without interrupting the workflow.
5. Negative Stock Audit Log
Every negative stock event is captured in the dedicated Negative Stock Log model. Each record includes the product, location, user, requested quantity, available quantity, operation type, date, and status (Warning or Blocked) â providing a complete audit trail for your inventory team.
6. Switch Warehouse Policy to Block and Attempt Delivery
After changing the warehouse negative stock policy from Warning to Block, a user attempts to validate a delivery for a product that is out of stock. The system immediately prevents the validation from proceeding.
7. Block Validation Error Message
When the Block policy is triggered, a clear validation error message is shown to the user, identifying exactly which product and location caused the rejection. The transfer cannot be confirmed until the stock issue is resolved.
8. Per-User Bypass â Allow Trusted Users to Override the Policy
Specific users can be granted the Bypass Negative Stock Check permission, allowing them to validate operations even when stock would go negative â regardless of the active policy. Ideal for inventory managers or supervisors who need to handle exceptional cases without being blocked.
Accurate Inventory Valuation
Prevent negative quantities that corrupt stock valuation and financial reports.
Granular Policy Control
Define different policies per location and per warehouse to match your business rules exactly.
Complete Audit Trail
Every blocked or warned negative stock event is logged with full context for review and compliance.

Trusted users can bypass checks when needed without changing the global configuration.
