Terrabit Google Tag Manager

Terrabit Google Tag Manager
Module for integrating Google Tag Manager (GTM) with the Odoo 18 e-commerce website.
How It Works
The module hooks into Odoo’s native websiteSaleTracking widget by overriding the _trackGA method. Whenever Odoo fires a GA4 event (via gtag), this module intercepts it and also pushes the same event to ``window.dataLayer``, making it available to Google Tag Manager.
This means all standard Odoo 18 e-commerce tracking events are automatically forwarded to GTM — no custom event logic is duplicated.
publicWidget.registry.websiteSaleTracking.include({ _trackGA(type, event, data) { this._super.apply(this, arguments); // keep native gtag call if (type === "event") { this._trackGTM(event, data); // also push to dataLayer } }, });
Configuration
Go to Website → Configuration → Settings and enable Google Tag Manager.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Tracking ID | GTM container ID (e.g. GTM-ABCDEFG) |
| Conversion Code | Google Ads conversion label (e.g. AW-123456789/ABCDEFG) — optional |
The GTM snippet is injected into <head> on every page when a Tracking ID is configured.
Events Forwarded to dataLayer
All events are pushed in the format:
window.dataLayer.push({ event: "<event_name>", ...data });
view_item
Triggered when a product detail page is loaded.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| currency | Currency code (e.g. RON, EUR) |
| value | Product price |
| items[].item_id | Product variant ID |
| items[].item_name | Product name |
| items[].price | Unit price |
| items[].item_category | Product category |
| items[].item_brand | Product brand |
add_to_cart
Triggered when the user adds a product to the cart.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| currency | Currency code |
| value | Total value (price × quantity) |
| items[].item_id | Product variant ID |
| items[].item_name | Product name |
| items[].price | Unit price |
| items[].quantity | Selected quantity |
| items[].item_brand | Product brand |
| items[].item_category | Product category |
purchase
Triggered on the order confirmation page after payment is completed.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| currency | Currency code |
| value | Order total value |
| transaction_id | Order ID |
| shipping | Shipping cost |
| tax | Tax amount |
| items[] | List of ordered products (same fields as add_to_cart) |
Note: If Conversion Code is configured, a conversion event is also sent via gtag() with send_to set to the conversion label.
page_view
Triggered on virtual page views for key checkout steps:
| Virtual Path | Meaning |
|---|---|
| /stats/ecom/product_add_to_cart/<id> | Product added to cart |
| /stats/ecom/customer_checkout | User clicked “Proceed to Checkout” |
| /stats/ecom/customer_signin | Unauthenticated user redirected to login |
| /stats/ecom/customer_signup | User signed up during checkout |
| /stats/ecom/order_checkout | Order confirmed |
| /stats/ecom/order_payment/<method> | Payment method selected |
| /stats/ecom/order_confirmed/<id> | Order confirmed (purchase event also fired) |
Templates
| Template | Description |
|---|---|
| google_tag_manager | Injects GTM <script> into <head> and <noscript> fallback before #wrapwrap |
| confirmation | Injects a div with data-google_conversion_code on the confirmation page (used for the conversion event) |
| product | Injects a hidden <span itemprop="category"> on the product page so the category is available to the tracking widget |
