Low Stock Notification for Odoo Inventory
Automatic, variant-level low stock alerts delivered right inside Odoo Discuss.
Overview
Vizion Low Stock Notification adds automatic, variant-level low stock alerts to Odoo Inventory, delivered as native OdooBot messages inside a dedicated Discuss channel. Set a threshold once per product variant, and the app watches on-hand quantity for you — so nobody has to run a manual stock check or build a custom automation rule to catch a shortage before it becomes a stockout.
Key Features
☑ Per-variant threshold control
Enable alerts and set a Low Stock Threshold directly on the Product Variant form.
☑ Real-time Discuss alerts
The moment on-hand quantity hits or drops below the threshold, an OdooBot-style message posts to a dedicated “Low Stock Alerts” channel.
☑ Complete alert detail
Every message includes the product name, internal reference (e.g. [DESK0005]), current quantity, configured threshold, and location / warehouse hints.
☑ Duplicate-alert suppression
Once a variant alerts, it stays quiet until stock is replenished above the threshold and dips again. No repeat notifications for the same shortage.
☑ Variant-level precision
Attribute-based products (size, color, custom options) get SKU-specific alerts instead of one generic warning for the whole product.
☑ Zero external integrations
Built entirely on Odoo’s native mail / Discuss infrastructure, so alerts show up wherever notifications already appear — desktop, mobile, and email digest.
☑ Full audit trail
Every change to the alert toggle or threshold is logged in the product’s chatter, recording who changed what and when.
How It Works
- Install Vizion Low Stock Notification from the Odoo Apps list. No configuration wizard, no external accounts.
- Open any Product Variant and go to the new Low Stock Alerts tab. Alerts are off by default.
- Check Enable Low Stock Alert and set a Low Stock Threshold (e.g. 50). The change is recorded instantly in the chatter for a complete audit trail.
- When on-hand quantity reaches or drops below the threshold, OdooBot posts an alert in the Low Stock Alerts Discuss channel with the product reference, current stock, threshold, and location.
- Reorder, replenish, and move on. The alert won’t repeat until stock rises back above the threshold and dips again.
Why Choose This App
- Avoid stockouts — catch low inventory before it turns into a lost sale or a stalled production order.
- Save monitoring time — stop running manual stock reports; threshold-based alerts do the watching.
- Faster reordering — alerts include everything a buyer needs (reference, quantity, location) to act immediately.
- Nothing new to learn — alerts arrive as familiar OdooBot messages in Discuss, a tool your team already uses daily.
- Accountable configuration — chatter logging means threshold changes are always traceable to a user and a timestamp.
Ideal For
- Retail and multi-variant product businesses (size, color, or custom-attribute SKUs)
- Point of Sale (POS) operations tracking fast-moving counter stock
- Wholesale and distribution businesses managing reorder points across many SKUs
- Restaurants tracking ingredient or supply stock levels
- Warehouse and 3PL operations wanting proactive replenishment signals without custom code

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this replace Odoo’s built-in reordering rules?
No, it complements them. Reordering rules automate purchase or manufacturing orders; this app gives your team a real-time, human-readable heads-up the moment stock gets low, so someone can review and act alongside any automated rule.
Will I get repeat alerts for the same product?
No. Once an alert fires for a variant, it won’t fire again until stock is replenished above the threshold and then drops below it again.
Does it work with product variants, or just simple products?
Both. Thresholds and alerts are set at the variant level, so businesses with attribute-based products get precise, SKU-specific notifications instead of one generic alert per product.
Do I need any integration outside Odoo, like Slack or email?
No. Alerts run entirely on Odoo’s native mail / Discuss infrastructure, so they show up wherever your team already checks notifications: desktop, mobile, or email digest.
Can I see who changed an alert threshold and when?
Yes. Every toggle or threshold change is logged in the product’s chatter, giving you a full audit trail.
