Installation and configuration of "Web Collaboration Notification" in Odoo
Requirements
- Odoo 18 is already installed and running.
- You have Admin rights in Odoo.
Step 1: Installing the Module
- Open the Odoo backend: Log in to your Odoo 18 backend.
- Open the Apps module: Click on "Apps" in the main menu.
- Use the search function: Enter "web_collaboration_notification" in the search bar.
- Install the module: When the "Real-Time Collaboration Notification" module appears, click the "Install" button.
Step 2: Configuring the Module
Activate the developer mode.
Navigate to: Settings â Technical â Database structure â Models.
Choose the model(s) for notifications:
search for the models you would like to activate the feature and click on the model you want to enable collaboration notifications for (e.g., Sales Orders, Contacts, Projects).
Step 3: Enable the notification feature
- Find the checkbox labeled "Collaboration Notification".
- Tick the box to enable real-time update alerts for this model.
- Save your changes.

3. Using Collaboration Notifications
Step 1: Edit records
- When multiple users have the same record for the same model open, any edits made by one user will trigger a real-time notificationfor others.
Example, Marc Demo craeted a Sale order where the user "Fabian", was editing in the same time the same sale order
Step 2: View notifications
- Notifications appear via Odoo's bus system, typically as a popup or message in the top bar (depending on your Odoo frontend configuration).
- Notifications include:
- Updated fields
- User name of the editor
Example: Once "Fabian" save the record, Marc Demo get a notification showing that the record has been changed by Fabian, and highlighting the changed fields
Step 3: Respond or review changes
- Use the notification information to coordinate with your team.
- Press refresh to update the record
4. Managing Notifications
To disable notifications for a model, simply uncheck the Collaboration Notification box in the model settings.
The system will automatically revert the patched write() method, so no extra cleanup is required.
Notifications are lightweight and only active for models where the feature is enabled.
