Requirements
  • Odoo 18 is already installed and running.
  • You have Admin rights in Odoo.


Step 1: Installing the Module
  1. Open the Odoo backend: Log in to your Odoo 18 backend.
  2. Open the Apps module: Click on "Apps" in the main menu.
  3. Use the search function: Enter "website_seo_smart_404" in the search bar.
  4. Install the module: When the "Website Seo smart 404 handler" module appears, click the "Install" button.


Step 2: Configuring the Module


Activate developer mode.

Navigate to: Website → Configuration → Websites.

Select the "Smart 404" tab:

  1. Enable Smart 404 (seo_404_enabled)
    • Turn this on to activate the enhanced 404 page features. When enabled, visitors who reach a missing page will see search suggestions and your custom 404 design.
  3. 404 SEO Behavior (seo_404_behavior)
    • Decide what happens when someone visits a missing page:
      • Return 404 - Shows the standard "Page Not Found" (recommended).
      • Return 410 - Marks the page as permanently gone (helps search engines update faster).
      • Redirect to homepage - Sends visitors to your homepage automatically.
      • Redirect to custom URL - Send visitors to any page you choose.
    • Custom Redirect URL (seo_404_custom_redirect_url)
      • If you choose to redirect to a custom page, enter the URL here. This can be any page on your site or an external page.
  5. Result Limit (seo_404_limit)
    • Set the number of search results to display
  7. Result Max Characters (seo_404_background_color)
    • Set the maximum number of characters to display in the search results
  9. Result Pager Step (seo_404_max_nb_chars)
    • Set the number of search result to display per page in the search results
  11. Background Color (seo_404_pager_step)
    • Customize the background color of your 404 page to match your website's look and feel.
  12. 404 Title (seo_404_title)
    • Change the main headline text that appears on the 404 page. For example: "Oops! We couldn't find that page."
  13. 404 Sub-Title (seo_404_sub_title)
    • Customize the smaller text under the main title, such as instructions or a friendly message to visitors.
  14. 404 Description (seo_404_description)
    • Edit the text that introduces suggested pages or content to help visitors find what they were looking for.
  15. Custom 404 Image (seo_404_image)
    • Replace the default 404 image with your own branding or illustration.
  16. Image Position (seo_404_image_position)
    • Choose whether your custom 404 image appears on the left or right side of the page


once done, open your website in a browser.

Type a random URL that doesn't exist.

Press Enter.

If odoo find, a page, blog, product etc,.. similar to the url, it will display the result
