Adaptive Kanban View

Master-Detail split interface for every Odoo Kanban view.
Browse cards on the left - edit the full form on the right - without leaving the page.


Problem: Every Kanban Click Navigates You Away

Standard Odoo Kanban opens a full-page form every time you click a card. When you need to browse and compare multiple records - leads, contacts, orders, tasks - you waste time navigating back and forth between the list and each form.

  • Clicking a CRM lead takes you away from the pipeline - you lose your scroll position
  • Reviewing 10 contacts means 10 round-trips back to the kanban list
  • No way to compare two records side by side while staying in kanban context
  • Sales teams reviewing quotations must constantly re-filter after each form visit
  • Power users who browse records quickly find Odoo's default navigation painfully slow

Adaptive Kanban View transforms the standard Odoo Kanban into a Master-Detail split interface. Click any kanban card and its full editable form instantly appears in a right panel - you stay on the kanban, the list stays scrolled, and switching to the next record is a single click. Works on CRM, Contacts, Sales, Projects, HR, and every other Odoo Kanban view. Enabled per-user - teammates who prefer the default behaviour are unaffected.

Module in Action - Screenshots

Step 1 - Enable Per-User in Preferences

Go to Settings -> Users -> (your user) -> Preferences tab. Toggle "Show Adaptive Kanban View Features" on. Each user controls their own experience - other team members are unaffected.

Step 2 - Open Any Kanban View (e.g. CRM Pipeline)

Navigate to any Kanban view in Odoo - CRM, Contacts, Sales, Projects, or any custom app. The kanban looks and behaves exactly as before until you click a card.

Step 3 - Click a Card -> Split View Opens Instantly

Click any kanban card. The view splits: kanban cards stay on the left, the full editable form appears on the right. The selected card gets a purple left border. You never leave the kanban page.

Step 4 - Instant Card Switching

Click a different kanban card. The right panel instantly updates to that record's form - the previous record is discarded (or saved if you already saved), and the active card highlight moves to the new selection. Browse through dozens of records in seconds.

Contacts Kanban - Split View

Browse your contacts kanban and click any contact card to view and edit their full form - address, job position, related contacts, activities, chatter - all without leaving the contacts list.

Sales Orders Kanban - Split View

Review quotations and sales orders in split view. The full order form - order lines, invoice details, delivery status, chatter - is visible on the right while you scroll through the kanban pipeline on the left.

Panel Header - Action Buttons

The panel header shows the model name and four action buttons: Duplicate (copy the record), Delete (with confirmation), Expand (open in full-page form), and Close (collapse the panel).

How It Works

Enable in User Preferences

Go to Settings -> Users -> your user -> Preferences tab. Toggle Show Adaptive Kanban View Features to ON and save. The setting is per-user - only your account switches to split mode.

Navigate to Any Kanban View

Open CRM, Contacts, Sales, Projects, or any Kanban view in Odoo. The kanban loads and displays normally - no visual change yet.

Click Any Kanban Card

The view instantly splits into two panes: the kanban list shifts to occupy 38% of the width on the left, and the selected record's full form opens in the 62% right panel. The clicked card gets a purple left border to mark it as active.

Browse, Edit, and Switch Records

Edit fields directly in the right panel and save - or click any other kanban card to switch to that record. The form panel updates instantly. You can browse through tens of records without any page navigation.

Use Panel Actions or Close

Use the panel header buttons to Duplicate the record, Delete it (with confirmation), or Expand it into a full-page form when you need more space. Click Close to collapse the panel and restore the full-width kanban layout.

Panel Action Buttons

Duplicate

Creates a copy of the current record. The panel immediately switches to the new duplicate, and the kanban list refreshes to show it.

Delete

Shows a confirmation dialog before deleting. On confirm, the record is removed, the panel closes, and the kanban list refreshes automatically.

Expand to Full Form

Opens the current record in Odoo's standard full-page form view when you need full width - additional tabs, related lists, or complex fields become easier to work with.

Close Panel

Collapses the right panel and restores the Kanban view to its full width. Clicking another card re-opens the split view at any time.


Installation

  1. Prerequisites: Odoo 18 or 19 with the web module (always present)
  2. Install: Go to Apps -> Update App List -> Search "Adaptive Kanban View" -> Install
  3. Enable per-user: Go to Settings -> Users -> your user -> Preferences tab -> toggle "Show Adaptive Kanban View Features" ON
  4. Test: Open any Kanban view (e.g. CRM), click a card - the split layout appears

Tip: The toggle is per-user. Enable it for power users who want the split view, leave it off for users who prefer the default Odoo Kanban navigation. No Odoo restart is needed after enabling.
