1. Configuration Guide
Prepare the system for secure access in 4 simple steps:
- Go to Accounting > Configuration > Journals.
- Select the Bank, Cash, or Misc journal you want to protect.
- Find the Security Settings.
- To Restrict: Add Users or Groups. (Hybrid Logic: User OR Group).
- To Public: Leave both fields empty.

Scenario 1: Private Restrictions (User-Level)
- Go to Settings > Users and create "User A" and "User B".
- Go to Accounting > Configuration > Journals.
- Select "Bank X". In Security Settings tab, add "User A" to Assigned Users.
- Test: Log in as User A. You SHOULD see "Bank X" in the Dashboard.
- Test: Log in as User B. You SHOULD NOT see "Bank X" in Dashboard or Journal filters.
Scenario 2: Role-Based Access (Group-Level)
- Create/Identify a Group, e.g., "Sales / Manager".
- Go to a Journal "Cash Y". Add "Sales / Manager" to Assigned Groups.
- Ensure "User B" is in the "Sales / Manager" group.
- Test: Log in as User B. You SHOULD see "Cash Y".
- Test: Remove User B from the group. You SHOULD NOT see "Cash Y" anymore.
Scenario 3: Public & Hybrid Access
Public: Clear all Users and Groups from Journal Z. Everyone should see it.
Hybrid: Add "User A" AND "Group Sales".
- User A (not in group) -> Has Access.
- User B (in group) -> Has Access.
- User C (neither) -> No Access.
Scenario 4: Interoperability (Whitelist)
Goal: Ensure Sales can create invoices even if they can't see the Bank Journal.
- Create an Invoice as a user who is RESTRICTED from seeing "Bank A".
- Register a Payment on that invoice using "Bank A".
- Result: The system MUST allow saving the payment. The user can see the payment widget on the invoice (Whitelisted) but cannot click through to read the full Journal Entry details.
Scenario 5: Reporting Stability
- Install module.
- Go to Accounting > Reporting > Cash Flow Statement.
- Run the report.
- Result: It MUST generate the report PDF/View without "AssertionError" or "Odoo Server Error". (Validates SQL Join fix).
FAQ & Troubleshooting
Common Resolutions
Using "Bank A" but can't see it?
Reason: You are likely not assigned to the journal.
Fix: Ask your Administrator to add your User (or your Group) to the Assigned Users tab in the Journal configuration.
Why is my Journal visible to everyone?
Reason: If no Users and no Groups are assigned, the Journal defaults to Public.
Fix: Add at least one User (e.g., the Administrator) to the Assigned Users field to activate Private Mode.
"Access Error" when opening a Move?
Reason: You are trying to access a document belonging to a Restricted Journal.
Fix: This is expected behavior. If you need access, request assignment to that specific Journal.
Is this compatible with Multi-company?
Answer: Yes!
Detail: Journal assignments are strictly linked to the specific Journal record. You can have different rules for "Bank US" (Company A) and "Bank EU" (Company B).
