Demo Video
Short walkthrough: install, upload a TTF, set font size, live preview, apply from settings or the font form, and reset.
Overview
AL Custom Backend Fonts lets administrators customize how the Odoo web client looks by applying a single font across menus, forms, lists, kanban views, and dialogs.
Configuration lives in Settings -> General Settings -> Backend Font. Custom TTF files are managed under Settings -> Technical -> User Interface -> Customized Fonts (developer mode / technical menu).
Key Features
- Built-in catalog - Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, Montserrat, Poppins, Nunito, Inter, Source Sans 3, IBM Plex Sans (Google Fonts).
- Custom TTF upload - brand or decorative fonts for internal use.
- Font size - selection: Standard (Odoo default) or 9-18 pt; applied with the font across the backend.
- Live preview - editable sample text; font family and size update as you change settings (before Apply).
- Apply Font - in General Settings or on each Customized Fonts form (header button).
- Reset to Default - restores standard Odoo typography; the button stays in the Backend Font block and is easy to find after a custom font is applied.
- No code changes in other modules - works via dynamic CSS and
ir.config_parameter.
Requirements
- Odoo 19.0 (Community and Enterprise).
- Dependencies:
base_setup,web. - Administrator rights to install the module and open Technical settings.
- Built-in fonts require outbound access to
fonts.googleapis.com(or use uploaded TTF only). - Custom fonts: .ttf files only.
Installation
- Copy the
al_custom_fontsfolder into your Odoo addons path. - Update the apps list: Apps -> Update Apps List.
- Search for AL Custom Backend Fonts and click Install.
- Enable Developer mode if you need the Technical -> Customized Fonts menu (recommended for uploading TTF files).
Step-by-Step Guide
A. Upload a custom TTF (optional)
- Go to Settings -> Technical -> User Interface -> Customized Fonts.
- Click New.
- Enter a Name (used as the font family in the UI).
- Upload a .ttf file.
- Set Font Size: Standard or 9-18 pt.
- Use the Preview area to test the font (save the record first so the file is available).
- Keep Active checked so the font appears in General Settings.
- Click Apply Font in the form header to activate this upload globally, or configure it later in General Settings.
B. Choose font and size in General Settings
- Open Settings -> General Settings.
- Find the block Backend Font.
- Select Built-in (Google Fonts) or Uploaded TTF and pick a font.
- Set Font Size: Standard (Odoo default) or a value from 9 pt to 18 pt.
- In the Preview section, edit the sample text; family and size update immediately when you change the selection (no Apply yet).
C. Apply or reset
- Click Apply Font in General Settings - the page reloads; menus, lists, and forms use the selected font and size.
- To revert, click Reset to Default in the same Backend Font section (easy to find even when the UI already uses your custom font).
- Use the Customized Fonts link to manage TTF files without leaving settings.
Note: Saving General Settings also stores font source, size, and preview text. Built-in fonts load from Google Fonts; if blocked, use an uploaded TTF. Font size Standard does not override Odoo's default size - only custom pt values do.
Screenshot 1 - Built-in font & live preview
To capture: General Settings -> Backend Font, built-in font + Font Size (e.g. 14 pt), preview showing family and size before Apply.
Screenshot 2 - Custom TTF in preview
To capture: Uploaded TTF selected; preview textarea shows the custom font (ideally a distinctive script or brand font).
Screenshot 3 - Customized Fonts menu
To capture: Technical -> User Interface -> Customized Fonts list view with one or more uploaded TTF records.
Screenshot 4 - Upload a new TTF
To capture: Form with Name, Active, TTF file, Font Size, Preview, and Apply Font in the header.
Screenshot 5 - Font applied across the backend
To capture: A standard Odoo screen (list + menu) after Apply Font, showing the new typography clearly.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Preview updates family and size live; the backend changes only after Apply Font or saving settings with a valid font selected.
- Font Size Standard leaves Odoo's default size; choose 9-18 pt to scale backend text.
- Apply from General Settings or from each Customized Fonts form (header button).
- If nothing changes after Apply, hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R).
- If built-in fonts do not load, check network access to Google Fonts or switch to an uploaded TTF.
- Use a distinctive TTF and a visible pt size (e.g. 16 pt) in screenshots and demo video.
- Preview text is stored in system parameters; each font record can keep its own preview text and size.
