Configuration Guide

This guide helps you connect Odoo with Meta WhatsApp Cloud API step by step. Complete the Meta Developer setup first, then configure the provider in Odoo. Once done, you can send templates, chat with customers, and track messages from Odoo.
Before You Start
Keep these ready so setup is faster:
1. A Meta / Facebook account with access to Meta for Developers.
2. A WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) and a verified business phone number.
3. Your Odoo instance URL (needed for webhook callback).
4. Admin access in Odoo to install the module and create providers.

Install the Module in Odoo

Go to Apps, search for Odoo Meta WhatsApp Graph API (or WhatsApp Base), then click Install / Activate.
After installation, a WhatsApp menu appears in Odoo. Use it for provider setup, templates, history, and dashboard.
Install Odoo Meta WhatsApp Graph API module
Part A — Meta Developer Setup
First create your Meta app and collect the credentials you will later paste into Odoo.

1. Create a Meta Developers Account

Open Meta for Developers and sign in with your personal or company Facebook account. This account will own the WhatsApp Cloud API app used by Odoo.
Developer portal: https://developers.facebook.com/
Create Facebook developers account

2. Create and Register Your App

Click Create App to register a new Meta app for WhatsApp. If you already have a WhatsApp Cloud API app, you can reuse it and skip ahead to the credential steps.
Create and register Meta app

3. Choose App Type and Finish Creation

Select the app type that fits your use case, enter the app name and contact email, then continue until the app is created. Follow the screens below if you are creating the app for the first time.
Create-app screenshots:
Create Meta app step 1 Create Meta app step 2 Create Meta app step 3 Create Meta app step 4

4. Open App Settings and Credentials

After the app is created, open it from your Meta dashboard. You will need App ID and related credentials during WhatsApp product setup and Odoo provider configuration.
Facebook credentials

5. Add WhatsApp Use Case and Customize

Meta now configures WhatsApp through Use cases (instead of the older Add Product flow). Open your app in Meta for Developers and follow these steps:
1. In the left sidebar, open Use cases.
2. Find the card Connect with customers through WhatsApp.
3. Click Customize to configure WhatsApp features, templates, and workflows.
On the same page, the Dashboard section App customization and requirements shows your progress (customize WhatsApp, Facebook Login for Business, testing requirements, business verification, App Review, and publish).
Meta Use cases - Customize WhatsApp
Tip: Click Customize on the WhatsApp use case to continue API setup and access configuration options needed for Odoo.

6. Complete WhatsApp Customization and Collect Credentials

After clicking Customize, finish the WhatsApp use-case setup in Meta. From the WhatsApp configuration / Getting started screens, copy the values you will paste into Odoo:
1. Temporary Access Token — used for first connection tests.
2. Phone Number ID — identifies the WhatsApp sender number (Instance ID in Odoo).
3. WhatsApp Business Account ID (WABA ID) — your business account ID.
Continue through Quick start / API setup until these credentials are visible:
Example of where the credential values appear:
WhatsApp credential details step 1 WhatsApp credential details step 2 WhatsApp credential details step 3
Tip: The temporary token expires. For live use, generate a permanent token in the next step.
Note: Before going live, complete the remaining Dashboard requirements in Meta (testing, business verification, App Review, and Publish).

7. Generate a Permanent Access Token

For production, create a System User and generate a permanent (long-lived) access token with WhatsApp permissions. Replace the temporary token in Odoo with this permanent token so messaging keeps working after the temporary token expires.
Follow this guide to create the permanent token:
Generate permanent access token
After generating it, save the token securely and paste it into the Odoo provider Access Token field.
Part B — Connect Meta to Odoo
Now create the provider in Odoo and connect webhook so messages sync both ways.

8. Create a WhatsApp Provider in Odoo

Go to WhatsApp Message → Configuration → Provider and click Create.
Fill the provider form with values from Meta:
1. Graph API URL (for example Meta Graph API base URL).
2. Phone Number ID / Instance ID.
3. WhatsApp Business Account ID.
4. Access Token (prefer permanent token).
Add new WhatsApp provider
Match each Odoo field with the Meta values shown earlier:
Meta credentials for provider setup step 1 Meta credentials for provider setup step 2 Meta credentials for provider setup step 3
After saving, click Reload / Get Status. Odoo generates the Callback URL and Verify Token required for Meta webhooks.
Copy those two values into Meta webhook settings (next step).
Provider configuration link to Meta
Note: For an extra phone number or another business account, create a new Meta app (or WABA setup) and a new provider in Odoo.

9. Sync WhatsApp Templates from Meta

On the provider, click Get WhatsApp Templates to import approved templates from Meta into Odoo. You can then select these templates when sending the first message to a customer.
Get WhatsApp templates

10. Sync Phone Number Details

Click Get Phone Number to refresh phone number details from Meta into the provider. This helps confirm the connected number and quality-related information.
Get phone number details

11. Update Business Details

Click Get Business Details to fetch and update WhatsApp Business Account information from Meta. Keep this updated so your Odoo provider reflects the latest business profile data.

12. Add Operators (Team Members)

Add Odoo users as operators so your team can receive and reply to WhatsApp conversations. Assign the people who handle customer support or sales chat.
Add multiple operators
Part C — Templates, Messaging, and Daily Use

13. Understand Message Templates (Important)

Meta policy: if a customer has not messaged you recently, you must start the conversation with an approved template. Free-form chat is allowed only after the customer replies (within the 24-hour customer care window).
Example: to contact a new lead, send an approved template first. After the lead replies, your team can continue with normal chat messages.
Template approval on Meta can take up to about 24 hours. Once approved, status becomes Active and you can use it from Odoo.
In Meta, go to Account Tools → Message Templates to create or manage templates.
Message templates

14. Create WhatsApp Templates in Odoo

Create templates from Odoo for marketing, utility, or authentication use cases. Bind Odoo fields as variables, add media headers/buttons when needed, and submit for Meta approval. Demo templates are also available to help you get started quickly.
WhatsApp templates in Odoo

15. Manage, Resubmit, and Check Template Status

After templates are created, manage them from Odoo:
1. Delete unused templates (single or bulk: select → Action → Delete).
2. Resubmit after edits so Meta reviews the updated template.
3. Get Template Status to refresh approved / rejected / pending status from Meta.
Manage WhatsApp templates

16. Track WhatsApp History

Open WhatsApp History to review all outgoing and incoming messages. Filter by provider, status, partner, or date to troubleshoot delivery issues and audit conversations.
WhatsApp history

17. Multi-Company and Multi-Provider Setup

If you run more than one company or WhatsApp number, create separate providers and assign them to the right companies and users. This keeps templates, operators, and chat history correctly separated.
Multi companies and multi providers

18. Set the Customer WhatsApp Number

On each contact, store the mobile number in international format and mark it as WhatsApp-enabled:
Contacts → Create / Open → Mobile → add number with country code → More → Check WhatsApp number
When the number is valid on WhatsApp, the WhatsApp icon appears and you can message that contact from Odoo.
Important: Always include the country code before the number (example for India: 91xxxxxxxxxx).

19. Send Messages with WhatsApp Composer

Use WhatsApp Composer to send a dynamic message from almost any business record.
1. Click the WhatsApp icon → open Composer.
2. Select partner, template (when required), and optional attachment (PDF, image, document, video).
3. Preview if needed, then click Send Message.
WhatsApp composer

20. Receive and Reply to WhatsApp Messages

Incoming WhatsApp messages (including media) appear in Odoo. Your operators can reply from Odoo Discuss / WhatsApp chat, and customers continue the conversation in WhatsApp.
WhatsApp chat screen

21. Use the Chat Window

The bottom-right chat window lets your team quickly open conversations, send text/media, and switch between live chat and WhatsApp threads without leaving the current screen.
Live chat and WhatsApp chat window

22. Analytics Dashboard

Open the WhatsApp Analytics Dashboard from the WhatsApp menu to monitor conversation volume, delivery performance, template usage, and team activity. Use filters and charts to understand what is working and where follow-up is needed.

23. Template Configuration and Live Preview

When building templates in Odoo, configure header, body variables, buttons, and media carefully. Use live template preview to verify how the message will look on WhatsApp before you submit or send it. Demo templates are included so you can learn the structure quickly.
Template examples:
Flash sale template Summer sale template Login template Campaign promotion template Customer support template Product showcase template Shipment update template

Dear Abdulaziz Alanazi,

The All-in-One module and the Bundle module both provide WhatsApp integration with Odoo, but the scope is different.

1. All-in-One WhatsApp Module

all_in_one_whatsapp_odoo_community is a complete WhatsApp integration module for Odoo. It includes:

  • WhatsApp Base

  • WhatsApp Automation

  • WhatsApp Discuss (Bidirectional Chat)

  • WhatsApp Marketing

  • WhatsApp Chatbot

2. WhatsApp Bundle Module

odoo_whatsapp_bundle is a WhatsApp integration suite that connects WhatsApp with multiple Odoo business modules. It includes:

  • WhatsApp Base

  • WhatsApp Automation

  • WhatsApp Discuss (Bidirectional Chat)

  • CRM

  • Sales

  • Purchase

  • Invoice

  • POS

  • Project Tasks

  • Inventory

So in short, All-in-One focuses mainly on WhatsApp features, while Bundle connects WhatsApp with multiple Odoo business modules for operational workflows.
