Background
The Banded Report Library is a free community-sharing service operated by Wilson Works as a companion to the Banded Report Writer. The goal is to grow a quality repository of banded reports for the Odoo community — useful starter templates, polished business reports, and creative designs that everyone can learn from. Contributions are welcome and lightweight moderation is in place to keep the library family-friendly and useful. Privacy is a first-class concern: only the JSON layout definition is shared, never any business data, personal information, or database credentials. Each install is identified by a random anonymous UUID only.

How It Works
The Banded Report Library plugs into the Banded Report Writer’s designer. From any report definition you can publish to the library; from the library browser you can import any community report into your database. All transfers carry the JSON layout only — never any data, never any credentials.
Every report in the library is built on Banded Report Writer’s flat-data foundation — one row per record, with all group-level values repeated on each row. That regularity is what makes shared reports easy to inspect, adapt, and rebrand once they are imported.
Steps to Get Started
1 Install the Module
Install Banded Report Library from the Odoo Apps Store. It depends on Banded Report Writer, which Odoo will install automatically if needed.
2 Browse the Library
Open the Library from the Banded Reports menu. Filter by category, sort by stars, and read each report’s smart-detected requirements before importing.
3 Import a Report
Click Import. Compatibility warnings highlight any Pro-only features or version mismatches up front, so you know exactly what you’re bringing into your database.
4 Share Your Own
From the report designer, hit Share to publish to the library. Add a name, description, and category. Only the JSON layout leaves your server — no data.
5 Star What You Use
Star reports you find useful so the best designs rise to the top of the default browse ordering. Stars are the community’s primary signal of quality.
🔗 Works with Free & Pro
The library works with both the free Banded Report Writer and the Pro module. Each shared report is automatically tagged with its Free/Pro requirements, target Odoo version, and any data-source dependencies — so you know before you import whether you have what you need.
🔒 Privacy First
Only the report template (JSON layout definition) is shared. No business data, no personal information, and no database credentials are ever transmitted. Each installation is identified by a random anonymous UUID only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is sharing mandatory? Can I just browse?
No, sharing is fully opt-in. You can browse and import without ever publishing one of your own. The library is a one-way street unless you choose otherwise.
What exactly leaves my server when I share?
Only the JSON report template — band layout, field positions, grouping rules, formatting. No data, no personal information, no credentials. Each install is identified by an anonymous random UUID only.
How is content kept appropriate?
Profanity filter, structural quality checks, and a community-guidelines disclaimer run on every share — so what reaches the library is meaningful, complete, and welcoming. Reports flagged by the community can be reviewed and removed by Wilson Works at any time.
Does it work with both the free and Pro Banded Report Writer?
Yes. Reports that use Pro-only features (images, watermarks, SQL, parameters, snippets) are clearly labelled so you know exactly what you need before importing.
