What does this module do?

Webcam for Image Fields adds a small camera button to every image field in the Odoo backend. Click it, grant browser camera access, take the shot, crop it if needed, and the photo lands directly in the field - no file manager, no upload dialog.

Works on contacts, products, employees, and any other model that uses an image field. No configuration required after installation.

A take-photo button appears automatically next to the existing controls of every image field in the Odoo backend.

Live webcam feed

A dialog opens showing the live feed from your webcam. Click Take photo when ready.

Built-in image cropper

After capture, a cropper dialog lets you adjust framing before confirming. Touch gestures are supported for tablet use.

Multilingual

UI translated into Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese out of the box.

No configuration needed

Install and it works. No settings to fill in, no API keys, no external services required.

All Odoo editions supported

Compatible with Community, Enterprise, and Odoo.sh deployments.

Camera button in the image field

After installation, every image field gains a new camera icon button. It sits next to the existing upload and clear controls and is visible only when the record is in edit mode.

Webcam dialog

Clicking the button opens a modal dialog showing the live webcam stream. If the browser cannot access the camera, a clear message is displayed instead of a broken feed.

Capturing a photo into an image field

Follow these steps to take a webcam photo and store it directly in any Odoo image field.

  1. Open a record with an image field

    Navigate to any record that has an image field - for example a contact (Contacts app), a product (Inventory > Products), or an employee (Employees app). Put the record in edit mode.

  2. Click the camera button

    Locate the camera icon button next to the image field controls and click it. Your browser will ask for permission to access the webcam the first time - click Allow.

  3. Take the photo

    The webcam dialog opens showing your live camera feed. Position the subject and click Take photo when ready.

  4. Crop the image

    After taking the photo, a cropper dialog opens. Drag to reposition and resize the crop area. Touch gestures are supported on tablets. Click Confirm when satisfied.

  5. Save the record

    The cropped photo is loaded into the image field immediately. Save the record as usual to persist the change.

Browser requirement: webcam access requires a secure context. Your Odoo instance must be served over https:// or http://localhost. Plain http:// on a remote host will block camera access in the browser.
Camera not loading? Check that camera permissions are granted for the site in your browser settings and that no other application is exclusively holding the camera device.
