Mark a product category as restricted and control which users may see products inside it. Restrictions apply across sales, purchases, inventory, accounting, and Point of Sale — so wholesale, VIP, or internal stock stays invisible to floor staff.

Restricted Categories

Toggle Restrict Category on any product category. Products in that category tree are treated as restricted until a user is explicitly allowed.

Per-User Allow List

Set Allowed Restricted Categories on each user. Staff only see restricted products when their profile includes the matching category.

Everywhere Products Appear

Filters sales orders, purchase orders, inventory operations, accounting lines, and POS product search — not just the product catalog list view.

1. Restrict the category

Go to Inventory → Configuration → Product Categories, open the category (for example Wholesale or Staff Only), and enable Restrict Category.

2. Allow selected users

Open Settings → Users & Companies → Users, pick a staff member, and add the restricted categories they may access under Allowed Restricted Categories.

Users without the category on their profile cannot find, select, or sell those products. Product managers and administrators continue to see every category for setup and oversight.

• 1. Restrict a category

  Open any product category and enable Restrict Category.

  

• 2. Allow specific users

  On the user's Preferences tab, add the restricted categories they're allowed to see.

  

• 3. See the difference, side by side

  Same search, same product, two different users. A Product Manager (who always bypasses restrictions) sees it immediately; a Floor Staff user without the category on their profile gets nothing — not even a hint the product exists.

  

1. Install the module (requires product, sale_stock, and point_of_sale).
2. Mark sensitive categories as restricted.
3. Assign allowed restricted categories to the users who need access.
