Approve overtime with the cost in front of you
A clean self-service overtime request workflow with multi-level approval, a live payroll cost preview at the moment of approval, cash or time-in-lieu compensation, and a compliance-grade audit trail — built natively on Odoo.
Overtime runs on spreadsheets and email. Managers approve without seeing the payroll cost, requests stall on a single approver, and the extra hours surface only at month-end close — with no defensible audit trail when auditors ask.
One workspace where employees submit requests in seconds, approvals route through the right levels, the calculated pay or time-in-lieu cost shows on the request before approval, and every decision is timestamped for compliance.
Everything overtime needs
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Self-Service Requests
Employees submit an overtime request with a date, hour quantity, reason category, and a mandatory justification — each auto-numbered with a sequenced reference.
Payroll Cost Preview
The request shows the calculated compensation — effective hours times base rate times the pay multiplier — so managers see the exact cost before they click approve.
Multi-Level Approval
Approval routes are driven by the reason category — manager only, or manager then HR — so requests never stall on a single absent approver.
Cash or Time in Lieu
Choose whether approved overtime is paid as cash or banked as compensatory time — a common HR policy most apps ignore.
Configurable Rate Tiers
Define pay-rate tiers with multipliers for weekday, weekend, and public-holiday overtime, so approved hours translate into the right compensation value.
Partial Approval
A manager can approve a subset of the requested hours — two of three — matching real negotiation instead of an all-or-nothing decision.
Attendance Auto-Detection
A scheduled action turns attendance extra hours beyond a configurable grace period into draft requests, so unplanned overtime is never missed at month-end.
Dashboard & Analytics
A kanban approval queue, a calendar of overtime by employee, and a pivot analysis of hours and cost by employee and department give HR full oversight.
Audit Trail & Roles
Approved and refused requests are locked for an immutable, timestamped record, with email alerts on every event and Employee, Approver, and HR access tiers. No payroll module required.

Frequently asked
Do I need the Odoo Payroll module?
No. The payroll cost preview is calculated from configurable rate tiers and a base hourly rate, so the app works standalone. It depends only on Employees and Attendances.
How is the approval route decided?
Each reason category carries an approval route — manager only, or manager then HR. When a request is submitted the matching approval steps are generated automatically.
Can a manager approve only part of the hours?
Yes. The approved hours can be set lower than the requested hours, and the estimated cost updates to match — approve two of three requested hours in one step.
Is there an audit trail for compliance?
Yes. Once approved or refused a request is locked from edits, and the chatter keeps a timestamped record of every submission and decision for internal audit and labor-regulation inspection.
