Product image export & import made effortless
Bulk-export product images to Excel, ZIP, or CSV with SKU-based naming — and round-trip re-import them back to the exact records. No eCommerce dependency required.
Catalog teams need product photos in named files for marketplaces, print vendors, and agencies — but Odoo has no native bulk-export. The reverse is worse: re-importing hundreds of edited images means hand-keying SKUs or paying a developer to write a one-off script for every photo shoot.
A guided wizard exports product images to Excel (with images embedded in cells), ZIP (SKU-named raw files), or CSV metadata. The same Excel file re-imports back, matches every row by SKU, shows a preview before committing, and requires no Website or eCommerce module.
Everything a catalog team needs
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Excel with Embedded Images
Export to XLSX with actual images placed inside cells — not base64 text strings. Rows stay uniform thanks to automatic aspect-ratio-aware scaling before embedding.
ZIP & CSV Export
Download a ZIP of raw PNG files named by SKU, or a CSV with metadata and file-path references for systems that process images separately from their manifest.
Round-Trip Import
Re-upload the exported Excel after a photo shoot. A validation step shows exactly which rows will update, which have no match, and asks for confirmation before writing anything.
SKU Fallback Chain
Files are named and matched by Default Code first, then Internal Reference, then Database ID. Every product gets a stable, human-readable identifier without manual preparation.
Template & Variant Images
A toggle selects template images, variant-level images, or both in one export. Variant SKUs use the variant’s own Default Code so every row stays unambiguous.
Category & Tag Filtering
Scope exports to specific product categories or tags without selecting products one by one — ideal for seasonal collections, seasonal rebrands, or supplier-specific image packages.
Resolution Presets
Choose Thumbnail (128×128), Web (512×512), Print (1024×1024), or a custom pixel dimension per export job. Images are padded to a consistent size to keep sheets uniform.
Dedicated Permission Group
The “Export Product Images” group gates both the wizard and the underlying methods. Assign it to photographers, contractors, or junior staff without granting broader product-edit rights.
Export Job Tracker
Every export run is logged as a job record with Pending / Running / Done / Failed status badges, the requesting user, product count, and a link to the result file.
How it works
Select Products
Pick products from the list, or scope by category or tag in the wizard.
Choose Format
Pick Excel with embedded images, a ZIP of raw files, or a CSV metadata sheet.
Export & Edit
Download immediately. Replace images in the Excel sheet with updated photos.
Re-Import
Upload the edited Excel, validate the preview, and commit — images land on the right records automatically.

Frequently asked
Does it require Website or eCommerce to be installed?
No. The module depends only on base, product, stock, and mail. It installs cleanly on warehouse-only or manufacturing-only Odoo instances.
Can I import images back from the exported Excel file?
Yes — that is the central feature. The same Excel file you exported can be filled with updated images and re-imported. The wizard shows a match-preview before writing anything, so a bad SKU column cannot silently overwrite the wrong product.
What SKU naming convention does it use for file names?
The fallback chain is: Default Code (Internal Reference field) first, then Database ID as a last resort. This means products with a filled Internal Reference always get a human-readable filename, and products without one still get a unique filename.
Who can use the export and import wizards?
Only users assigned to the “Export Product Images” security group. The group gates both the wizard menu items and the underlying export and import methods, so access control works even if someone calls the methods directly via RPC.
