Is a Customer, Is a Vendor - Partner Role Flags, Badges & Filters
by Cerevantix Technologies https://www.cerevantix.com$ 14.99
Know every contact’s commercial role at a glance
Add explicit Is a Customer and Is a Vendor toggles to every partner, with scannable role badges, reliable customer and vendor filters, and role-aware partner selection across Sales and Purchase.
Since Odoo 13, whether a contact is a customer or a vendor is an implicit, transaction-derived rank — there is no visible flag to declare it. Teams spanning pure customers, pure vendors, and dual-role partners cannot tell a contact’s role without opening the record, pick the wrong party on quotations and purchase orders, and struggle to segment their address book.
This app restores an explicit, user-controlled role. Flip the Is a Customer and Is a Vendor toggles on any contact — independently or both at once — and a colour-coded Commercial Role badge appears right in the contacts list. Symmetric filters segment the address book, while Sales documents propose only customers and Purchase documents propose only vendors.
Everything you need to manage contact roles
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Is a Customer / Is a Vendor toggles
Two clear boolean toggles on the contact form let you declare a partner’s commercial role explicitly, replacing Odoo’s hidden customer and vendor rank system.
Dual-role contacts
A single contact can be both a customer and a vendor at the same time, reflecting real supplier-and-buyer relationships without creating duplicate records.
Colour-coded role badges
A Commercial Role badge — Customer, Vendor, or Customer & Vendor — shows directly in the contacts list, so every partner’s role is scannable without opening the record.
Symmetric role filters
Ready-made Customers and Vendors filters in the contacts search view let you segment the address book reliably in both directions — no lopsided, one-role-only behaviour.
Group by Commercial Role
A Commercial Role group-by option organises contacts into customer-only, vendor-only, and dual-role buckets, giving managers an instant read on address-book composition.
Role-aware Sales selection
On quotations and sales orders the customer field proposes only contacts flagged as customers, cutting wrong-party selection at the point it matters most.
Role-aware Purchase selection
On requests for quotation and purchase orders the vendor field proposes only contacts flagged as vendors, keeping customer-only records out of your purchasing flow.
Automatic sync with history
The flags stay in sync with Odoo’s customer and supplier rank, so contacts that already have sales or purchase history are recognised as customers or vendors automatically.
Community & Enterprise ready
Built on standard Contacts, Sales, and Purchase models with no restrictive gating, so you can flag any partner at any time on both Community and Enterprise editions.
How it works
Install the app
Install the module; existing contacts with sales or purchase history are recognised automatically.
Flag the role
Open any contact and switch on Is a Customer, Is a Vendor, or both — no prior transaction required.
Scan & filter
Read role badges at a glance in the contacts list, and use the Customers, Vendors, and Commercial Role filters to segment.
Sell & buy
Create quotations and purchase orders with pickers that propose the right party — customers for Sales, vendors for Purchase.
See it in action
Real screens from the module — role badges, filters, toggles, and role-aware pickers.
A Commercial Role column shows a colour-coded badge — Customer, Customer & Vendor, or Unclassified — on every row, so roles are readable straight from the contacts list.
Ready-made Customers and Vendors filters plus a Commercial Role group-by let teams segment the address book by role in a couple of clicks.
The Is a Customer and Is a Vendor toggles sit right on the contact form — here both are on, marking a dual-role partner without any duplicate record.
On a quotation the customer picker proposes only contacts flagged as customers, keeping vendor-only records out of your sales selection.
On a request for quotation the vendor picker proposes only contacts flagged as vendors, so purchasing stays focused on the right suppliers.
Frequently asked
Do I have to record a transaction before I can flag a contact?
No. Flagging is manual and unrestricted — you can mark any contact as a customer, a vendor, or both at any time, with no prior sales or purchase document required.
Can a contact be both a customer and a vendor?
Yes. Both toggles are independent, so a single partner can be marked as a customer and a vendor at once. Its badge then reads Customer & Vendor and it appears in both filters.
Will it recognise contacts that already have sales or purchase history?
Yes. The Is a Customer and Is a Vendor flags stay in sync with Odoo’s standard customer and supplier rank, so existing contacts with sales or purchase history are flagged automatically and nothing is overwritten.
Does it work on both Community and Enterprise?
Yes. The app extends the standard Contacts, Sales, and Purchase apps and runs on both Odoo Community and Enterprise editions.
