Find every email Odoo lost and route it home.
Incoming emails that never attach to a record do not disappear — they just become invisible. Lost Messages Routing surfaces every stranded message in one queue, lets you preview and route it (with attachments intact) to any record, and keeps an audit trail of every recovery.
When an email reply strips its Odoo reference, hits the catchall address directly, or a fetchmail run hiccups, the message lands in the database with no model and no record. It never appears in any chatter. Customers believe they have replied; salespeople, support agents, and project owners never see it — until a complaint forces someone to dig through raw mail logs to find out what happened.
Lost Messages Routing detects these unattached messages the moment they are created, lists them in a dedicated queue with live status, and lets an authorized user preview and route them — individually or in bulk — onto any record that supports messaging. Attachments move with the message, get verified, and every routing action is written to an immutable audit log.
Everything you need to recover lost email
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Centralized Lost-Messages Queue
A single list surfaces every message that never attached to a business record, so misrouted email stops disappearing into the database. Color-coded status (Unrouted / In Progress / Recovered) makes backlog size and freshness visible at a glance.
One-Click Route Wizard
Select a message and choose any destination model and record through a single reference field. It opens instantly from the queue list or straight from a message’s own form.
Bulk & Multi-Select Routing
Select many stranded messages at once and route them to the same record in a single action — no more one-by-one popup handling.
Attachment Preservation & Verification
Every file, quote, and signed document travels with the message when it is routed, and the module confirms afterward that every attachment landed on the target record.
Immutable Routing Audit Log
Every route, re-route, bulk route, and automated route is snapshotted — who routed it, to what record, when, and whether attachments verified — giving full accountability for customer-facing recoveries.
Automated Catchall & Pattern Rules
Configure ordered rules that match sender email, sender domain, or subject text, and let a scheduled job route matching lost messages automatically, cutting manual triage load.
Real-Time Lost-Message Notifications
The moment a message is flagged lost, the configured responsible user (or every Lost Messages Manager) is notified directly in Discuss, so nobody has to poll the queue for new arrivals.
Role-Based Access Control
A dedicated User role can view and be notified about lost messages while a separate Manager role holds routing, rule, and configuration authority — matching enterprise governance needs.
Message Preview Before Routing
The route wizard shows the sender, subject, full body, and attachments of the message being routed, so you route with confidence instead of guessing from a subject line.
How it works
Message Arrives Unmatched
An inbound email fails to attach to any record and lands in the Lost Messages queue, flagged and, if enabled, notified in real time.
Review in the Queue
Managers see the message’s status, sender, and attachment count, and open the preview to read the full content before deciding where it belongs.
Route to the Right Record
Pick a target model and record — one message or many at once — and the wizard moves the message and its attachments together.
Audit and Confirm
Attachment integrity is verified, the queue status flips to Recovered, and the action is logged in the routing history for full accountability.
See it in action
From detection to recovery to audit — every screen in the workflow.
The centralized queue lists every unattached message with live status, attachment count, and current record — color-coded so unrouted messages stand out immediately.
Opening a message shows its full detail — sender, subject, body, and attachments — before you decide where it belongs.
The route wizard previews the message and lets you pick any target model and record, whether routing one message or many at once.
Once routed, the message shows its target record, who routed it, when, and confirms that every attachment was verified.
Ordered catchall and pattern rules auto-route predictable lost messages by sender email, sender domain, or subject text.
Each rule defines a match pattern and a target record, with a running count of how many messages it has auto-routed.
Every route, re-route, bulk route, and automated route is logged — who did it, to what record, when, and whether attachments verified — for full accountability.
Configure lost-message notifications, the responsible recipient, automated routing, and which models are allowed as routing targets.
Frequently asked
Which Odoo versions does this module support?
Lost Messages Routing is available for Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0 Community.
Can I route a lost message to any model, or only sales and helpdesk records?
Any model that supports messaging can be a routing target — sales orders, helpdesk tickets, CRM leads, project tasks, contacts, or any custom model, subject to whatever restriction list an administrator configures in Settings.
Do attachments survive when a message is routed?
Yes. Every attachment on the message is repointed to the target record as part of the same routing action, and the module confirms the move so nothing has to be manually re-checked.
Who can route messages, and who just sees them?
Two roles are included: a Lost Messages User who can view the queue and receive lost-message notifications, and a Lost Messages Manager who can additionally route, bulk-route, configure automated rules, and manage settings.
