Stop the follower noise on sales orders
Odoo auto-adds the creator, salesperson, and emailed contacts as followers of every sales order. Flip one switch to stop it — and keep exceptions for the teams or stages where you still want the default behavior.
Every sales order automatically subscribes its creator, the responsible salesperson, and sometimes emailed recipients as followers. On high-volume sales teams this floods the chatter and activity feed, and customers receive unwanted notification emails triggered by purely internal edits.
A single master switch in Sales Settings suppresses automatic follower addition on sales orders only. Scoped exceptions let you keep Odoo's default behavior for specific Sales Teams or order statuses — manual "Follow" and every other model stay completely untouched.
Everything you need, nothing you don't
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
One master switch
A single Boolean toggle in Sales Settings turns automatic follower suppression on for the whole database. Fresh installs stay completely inert until you flip it.
No creator follower
The user who creates a sales order is no longer auto-subscribed as a follower, cutting one of the most common sources of chatter clutter.
No salesperson auto-follow
The responsible salesperson is no longer auto-subscribed on create or when reassigned on write — they still see the order in their pipeline, just without the follower noise.
No unwanted customer emails
Emailed recipients and customers are no longer silently auto-subscribed during message posting, so internal edits no longer trigger surprise notification emails.
Team-scoped exceptions
Create an exception for a specific Sales Team to keep Odoo's default auto-subscription behavior for that team's orders, while every other team stays quiet.
Status-scoped exceptions
Create an exception for a specific order status — for example, keep default follower behavior once an order is confirmed, so confirmed-deal stakeholders stay in the loop.
Manual follow always works
Only automatic subscription paths are intercepted. Clicking "Follow" on a sales order, or subscribing a contact by hand, always works exactly as Odoo intends.
Fully standalone
No parent app, no hidden second purchase. Install this one module on top of Sales and every feature above is available immediately.
Scoped to sales orders only
Follower behavior on every other model — invoices, projects, tasks, CRM leads, and beyond — is completely unaffected. The change is predictable and fully scoped.
How it works
Install the module
Add it on top of Sales. No parent app, no extra dependencies, no configuration required to get started.
Flip the master switch
Turn on "Disable Auto-Followers on Sales Orders" in Sales Settings. The read-me-first help text explains exactly what changes.
Add exceptions (optional)
Under Sales > Configuration > Auto-Subscribe Exceptions, pick the teams or order statuses that should keep default behavior.
Work as usual
Create and edit sales orders normally — the chatter stays clean and manual "Follow" keeps working exactly as before.
See it in action
From the master switch to scoped exceptions — every screen below is live in the module.
The Auto-Subscribe Exceptions list shows every scope where Odoo's default follower behavior is retained — team-scoped and status-scoped, at a glance.
Each exception form adapts to the scope you pick — choose a Sales Team or an Order Status, add an internal note, and save.
The master switch lives right in Sales Settings, with plain-language help text explaining exactly what turning it on changes.
Frequently asked
Does this affect follower behavior anywhere besides sales orders?
No. The module only intercepts automatic follower additions on the sale.order model. Invoices, projects, CRM leads, and every other model keep Odoo's standard behavior, untouched.
Do I need to install a separate parent app for this to work?
No. This is a single, self-contained module that only depends on the standard Sales app. There is no hidden second purchase or companion module to track down.
Can I keep the default behavior for some teams or order stages?
Yes. Auto-Subscribe Exceptions let you retain Odoo's default auto-subscription for orders matching a specific Sales Team or a specific order status, while suppression stays active everywhere else.
Will this stop manual "Follow" clicks or block emails from being sent?
No. Manual subscription (clicking "Follow" or adding a follower by hand) always works. Emails you choose to send still go out — only the silent, automatic follower additions are suppressed.
